O.K. So, I'd like to get back to the first part "the attention getter". What would be
an effective "attention getter"?
Well, as I said, you can use a piece of poetry, a quote, uhm a personal example, something
that will make the audience actively pay attention to you-listen to what you are trying to tell
them.
Right, uh so, you have told us about the three "T's" Tell them what you are going to tell
them; tell them; and the third one: tell them what you have told them. O.K. So....are there
any other ways that the speech writer can make their speech more effective ?Uh make
it easier for the audience to understand?
I think one thing that the speaker needs to remember is that the audience cannot simply
push a button and hold you, pause or rewind, get you to repeat what you have just said.
So, in that sense a speech is very different from a paragraph where the reader can go back,
so you need to remind the audience all the way along. You can use synonyms. You can repeat
what you are saying uh you can use key words, you can say: "First, second, third." All these
things can help the listener to remember the information that you are delivering to them
in your speech.
