An important area for you to be paying attention to and concerned with your geriatric dog is
their teeth and teeth care. So as they get older their teeth are going to be wearing
down. If it's a dog that played with a lot of tennis balls, or a lot of dogs actually
pick up rocks and carry them around, their teeth are going to wear down. If your dog
has always been a serious chewer it's possible that they can break, crack, fracture some
of the back teeth, the carnassials teeth, some of the back molars. So you want to be
careful and pay attention to your dogs teeth as they get older and how much tarter they
have. Good girl, good girl. Check out your dogs teeth. Good girl, good girl. This dog
doesn't particularly like have her teeth check but it's important to just do it gently and
gradually. See if you see any fractures. One thing that you can make sure to do to keep
the teeth healthy and clean is you can give them things to chew on that are going to promote
healthy teeth and gums. I have a couple of items here. She's interested in that. This
one here in a bully strap. It's a tendon. It's just a piece of tendon from a cow. Are
you interested in that one? Here you go. This one here is trachea. It's actually from a
cow. It's a trachea. This one is a greeny. Over here we've got some marrow bones. You
can get these from your super market. Great for the dogs to chew on. A couple of items
that we have here...Would you like this one? Which one did you want? If your dog tolerates
them well you can give them to him everyday. What happens here is the dog softens and chews
the material. They're actually going to be cleaning their teeth and pushing their gums
back. So you're keeping their gums nice and healthy as well. You want to try that one
out? She's spoiled. Do be careful paying attention to your dog's teeth as they get older. Hannah
come lie down over here. Make sure that they have plenty of stuff to chew on to promote
healthy teeth.
