hi everyone
welcome to the new episode of NGS
in this episode we will review a 16 bit console, which is Super Nintendo
so, let's get started
this console released in Japan at 1990
1991 in US
and finally in Europe at 1992
it's the first 16 bit console from Nintendo
which is came after NES
there was a huge war between SNES and Sega Genesis
and even Media war!
it's was a golden age
and preferring between SNES and Sega Genesis games was a matter of opinions
because both of them have an awesome library of games
anyway let's describe the console
that's a close look to the console
that's the cartridge slot and it has a cover which is good
and the power switch which is look strange
even the reset switch
you have to push it, and it's annoying sometimes
you may accidentally push the console if it's not on a hard ground
that's the eject button
DON'T press it while the console is turned on!!
this is the control ports and they are very different from the others
the back of the console
AC adapter port
RF port
this switch is for setting the channel like we saw in Master System
and finally the AV port, which is different from NES or Famicom
the console design is very decent and it's remind me of LEGO figures
that's in my opinion at least
and the look does not effect the quality of games of course
let's talk about the Japanese Edition
thats the Japanese SNES
which is called Super Famicom
by the way, the European design is similar to the Japanese
except for the console name over here
so there is no need to review the European edition in details
this is the console
the cartridge slot which is different than the original and it has the cover
control ports like the original
the power switch which is a lot esier to use and the reset button too
that's the eject button
there is something cool about this design unlike the US design
when you turn the console on, there is a cartridge holder that holds the cartridge
and prevents the ejecting of the cartridge
this is an awesome feature indeed
I will show you the holder and you will understand what I mean
this is the holder
see?
about the back
it's the similar stuff to the US design, so there is no need to talk about it
the console design so cool unlike the US one
I hoped the US design was like the Japanese, especially
when the Japanese Edition released before the US one
the flaw about Super Nintendo consoles that they are locked region
in other word, the US cartridges won't work on the Japanese consoles, and the opposite is right too
so you will need the adapter in order to do that
about the controller
this is the SNES controller
and it's very different than the NES controller
these are the main buttons
Y, X, A, B
not to mention
they added for the first time the shoulder buttons
in the middle, Start and Select
the D-Pad is very comfortable for the thumb
and it's good for the fighting games, the controller is so good in general
in other hand, Super Famicom controller is a little different
each button has a different color which is make it a lot easier to memorize unlike the US one
let's talk about the covers
this is the SNES covers which are made by a weak cartboard like NES
and they can easily get damaged
notice that you can get the cartridges out from the sides
unlike the Japanese covers that you can get the cartridges from the top
the design of the covers are good but they need more caring
let's talk about the cartridges
this is the US cartridge and it looks awesome
and looks like a fortress
the good thing it has a label so you can read the title
you can pull the wanted game easily without searching it one by one
this is the Japanese Cartridge, and the European uses the same edition by the way
and it looks okay and it's not bad,
its kinda bent in the front, BUT...
there is no label here
so you can't find your game easily
the other thing
if you put the games on each other like this they will fall
oh god...
there is no label and I can't.....
what the ...?!
...*O_______O*
anyway, in general the US cartridges are better
let's talk about another edition of SNES from third party company
the SupaBoy
it's a handheld SNES from Hyperkin
they created FC-Mobile 2 which is a handheld NES, and we talked about in the first episode
not to mention that they created Retron 5 too and we reviewed it the second episodes
this is the console and the design is so awesome, because it looks like the SNES controller
there are two controller ports which is awesome too
it uses the same buttons of course
here is the reset button
and the Start and Select button are reversed
because they want your thumb to be closed to it, so you can press it easily
the back side, this is the battery port
and it used the rechargeable battery, not the regular ones, and that's good
and this piece you can move it left or right
it tights the cartridge, so the game won't crush if you are shaking the console quickly while playing
after all, these cartridges are not created to be played on portable consoles
the upside
that's the cartridge slot
that's the mini USB port and there is an AC adapter for it
that's the power switch
and this is the AV Out for connecting the console to your TV
the downside
this is the headphone port
and that's for the volume
and that's the console light for letting you know if the console is on or not
the location is not convenient and it's supposed to be anywhere here
but it's not a big issue anyway
now I am testing the console on TV
I noticed something
the player 1 port won't work unless you plug the console to your TV
it seems this port is for playing on TV only
by the way, I like the idea of supporting the mini USB in this console, because you can find them easily
and you can buy them for this console
not to mention the AV Out so you can use it as a home console or a handheld console
the most awesome thing about Supaboy, it's region free
so the US cartridges,
European cartridges,
and the even the Japanese cartridges! all works perfectly on it!
that's all about the Supaboy, now let's talk about the SNES games
Super Mario World
if you like Mario games then don't miss this one
they added a huge map to explore and also the secret passages
Mario can got more power ups besides fire flower
the interesting thing is playing as yoshi for the first time
Super Mario Kart
the first race game that uses Mario characters
it was so original back there
especially when you are racing against 7 other players and use weapons from Mario games
each racetrack is different from each other
it's an excellent game and you must buy it
Donkey Kong Country 2
one of the greatest platform games all the time
the good thing about this series is the graphics , sound effects and music
not to mention the gameplay
you play as Diddy and Dixie
and their mission is saving Donkey Kong from Captain Rool
there are 3 games of this series and this one is the best among them
add it to your collection!!
Chrono Trigger
if you like RPG games
then I say this game is the best RPG game ever
because the gameplay is so epic and original
not to mention the soundtrack and the story
it's really hard to believe that this game is on Nintendo console
this game cannot be ignored by the RPG fans
this one is the best in my opinion
Super Castlevania 4
do you remember the trilogy that we reviewed in the last episodes?
this one is the forth in the series and it's released on SNES
they added "Super" in the title
this game is awesome if we compare to the previous ones
and you play as Simon Belmont once again
in this game you can whip in the different directions and also do a twirly move with your whip
it protects you from...Medusa head! and others flying monsters
also from the fireballs from some enemies
its a good action game in general
Captain Tsabusa 3
or Captain Majid in other word
if you are a fan of RPG sport or the anime series there is no doubt that you will like this one
it's so popular in the middle east
it's a soccer game with an RPG elements and as far as I know, this is the first game that used this style of gameplay
and deserves buying of course
Hagane
if you like Shinobi games on Sega consoles
without doubt, you will love this one
it's very similar to Shinobi but it's for professional players
you can do a lot of amazing moves in it
it's a hard game and very challenging of course
that's all about the games for now and there are a lot of good games
but we can't talk about them all in one shot
In conclusion, this is the Super Nintendo console
any collector must have it of course
but if you want to save money and space, I say get the Supaboy
why? because as we said it's region free
and you can use it as a console or handheld
that's all about Super Nintendo
thanks for watching and see you again in the next episode
