My name is Patrick and this is my spotlight.
I am the Co-Facilitator, Coordinator and Director of Asian Arts Freedom School's Drag Musical
Program.
I'm also known as Miss Nookie Galore.
But what people don't know about me is that I love horror movies.
I think when you're raised to fear everything, you have this oddly comforting relationship
with fear. So my piece for Arise is a scary story. It's a story that honours the life
and death of my grandmother – someone who meant everything to me. And the scary stories
she told.
I remember this story she told me about the Kumakatok. There are these 3 people in the
philippines dressed in hooded robes that would knock on your door in the middle of the night.
And if they knocked on your door in the middle of the night, that meant someone in your family
was gonna die. And there is nothing you can do.
So the question then becomes, if our bodies can cross oceans and imaginary borders can
superstitions and folklore do the same?
[knock knock knock]
someone's at my door. Gotta Go, Bye!
