When I was growing up, my friend Doug Pierce joined the Kiss Army. For those of you who
didn’t grow up in the 70s and 80s, the Kiss Army was the fan club for the hard rock and
roll band Kiss.
If I remember correctly, he filled out a form and mailed it in with $5 or so and waited
in anticipation for 4-6 weeks for his fan club packet to arrive.
When it did arrive in the mail, it had all kinds of pictures and memorabilia. Doug was
just as excited to show us all that stuff as we were to see it.
Now days, anyone can have a fan club, even you. And, you don’t have to be a rock star,
actor or famous person. Just like musicians work hard to put out and share their songs,
videos, pictures, blogs and articles, you can put out your ideas, insights and experience
in many of those forms too. If you do, then you can, and likely will, attract a crowd
of people who appreciate you for who you are and what you know.
It won’t cost them $5 and they won’t have to wait 4-6 weeks to hear from you either.
Your fan club can tune in to you easily, quickly, and often if you just invite them to follow
your social media accounts.
You don’t need a posse, hype men, or public relations teams either. What do you need?
You need an active social media presence in places like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook
where you regularly share opinions and knowledge and respond to your fans‘ questions when
they ask them.
Be helpful. Be nice. Be there, often. If you do, then watch your fan club online grow.
