One Drum is a software company that sells a collaboration platform that allows people
to share and work on documents at the same time.
One Drum is extremely innovative because it uses peer-to-peer technology which means that
there is no complex set-up on a server somewhere, it’s just a simple piece of software that
sits on your computer and it allows you to share files and see files changing in real-time.
Something no other software does. We tap into Scotland’s academic pedigree
today and we’ll continue to do more of it in the future. We base ourselves at Innovation
(Science) Park so that we can develop strong relationships with Stirling University, initially,
then Edinburgh, Strathclyde & Glasgow (universities) in the future. We are already receiving the
benefits of that by working with some of there PHD students and we would expect that to be
a very strong driver for how we develop talent and develop the product.
In the medium term the overseas markets are clearly very important to us, other initially
English speaking countries like the United States have enormous opportunities for us
and from Scotland we have a great platform to go out and talk to those countries.
Our relationship with Scottish Enterprise has been fantastic they’ve worked extremely
hard from the start. They assigned us an account manager and he had looked at every aspect
of the business, tried to understand where Scottish Enterprise can add value. That starts
off with financial aspects such as potential grants but also extends to networking, putting
us in contact with people like product managers and marketers who we don’t necessarily know.
We’re a young company but we have a very aggressive growth strategy. We want to be
world beaters, we want to grow the company quickly the best way we can do that is to
create a great product that people like, want to use, want to tell their friends about.
Moving beyond that, when we start expanding our markets, we’ll move from supporting
small businesses, consultants to developing market places for much bigger businesses,
for investment banks, for tel-co’s and really bring a new pattern of collaboration to a
wider audience.
