Hi everyone. So we finally have some words with Ubisoft as to
the patch plans for Watch Dogs at long last.
It may take them a few weeks. So, they're kind of split down into
two areas as it were, fixes which are going to be going across
all of the various versions of Watch Dogs and those that are PC specific. So
let's start with the stuff that's going across all the consoles and PC first.
So major game fixes. Automatically reconstructed corrupt save files which prevents
loading to go further than 90%,
some collectibles many remain unrecoverable. Hopefully a large number
of people now actually be able to play the game.
Fix the issue preventing players from using hacks in the game.
You'd kind of have thought that would be a major issue on a game
which is all about hacking! Gameplay fixes...
Fix several mission breaking bugs - they don't say which,
fixed minor mission and item related issues. They don't say what.
Fix the issues that cause the empty weapon wheel, not seen that one myself.
Multiplayer fixes. Fixed several minor respawn issues,
fixed some connection and session joining issues, pretty standard stuff for multi-player
games, it has to be said.
Now the PC specific stuff - fixed graphical glitches on low and medium
settings.
Good! Honestly, hopeless that was!
Fix some crashes on SLI configurations. I know that's going to make a lot of gamers
very happy at the high-end.
Implemented several performance improvements. Could this possibly be the
caching bug that we've all been dealing with?
Implemented a few control improvements - they don't say what exactly.
Fixed issue causing infinite messaging and time out when trying to access the
online shop from
extras menu while Uplay is set to offline mode. This is something that we
first raised its head when the Ubisoft log-in registration system
seems to have gone down. So hopefully that will stop that from happening in future.
Fixed issues connecting to a multiplayer game, implemented several mouse
modifications.
Hopefully mouse acceleration working properly now. Fix the drinking game
fix the chess game, fix the bug where the invasion setting was
never saved. Fixed the graphical issue during cutscenes and cinematics.
Fixed several graphical and texture bugs, removed the Vista OS check to prevent
false positives and added game version number in the main menu.
So there's nothing groundbreaking here, particularly. Just really what you
kind of would have expected to be a bit of tidying up in their first patch.
However, some of this stuff makes me feel that actually this game
wasn't really tested properly before launch because they effectively launched it
knowing they had missions that were broken,
mission items that weren't working and obviously issues with the multi-player. Now, some of this
stuff you kind of say, fine,
fix it afterwards but mission breaking bugs
in a game like this? Fair enough we expect that in MMOs. We
don't really expect it in AAA titles that apparently have been through full
authentication and been checked over by the likes of Microsoft and Sony
to make sure there's no game breaking bugs. This used to be the way
approval was done. It now seems to be a case that your game needs to be released on
this date
you're a big AAA title. We need to sell some consoles. Let's just shove it out the door,
we'll hit the certification button on there without really checking it properly.
Mission breaking bugs mean uncompletable game or skippable content
unfortunately in my world that means a game that was not tested
thoroughly before launch. Another black mark against Watch Dogs I'm afraid
but at least they're patching this stuff. The PC patch is due to land
even within the next couple of days. The console patch is going to have to go through
certification and to be checked over to make sure it doesn't
cause game-breaking bugs. Haha. So keep your eyes on the downloader.
there will be an update coming very, very soon. PC first, consoles to follow.
