Hello, and welcome to the second episode of "Metalliwhat ?"
First of all, I would like to...
Excuse me a second.
That's better !
So, first of all I'd like to thank you all for your enthousiasm with the first video,
I didn't expect that much views and compliments so Thank you very much, you're fantastic !
Now, we will start right away, because we're not here to joke around !
Well, not only for that.
METAL GENRES
Metal is just a term for the globality of music,
because when you say "I listen to Metal", it can mean a lot of things.
It's a tricky subject, classifying the bands into genres,
and I already hear the "Yeah, but that band isn't Thrash, it's Metalcore !"
but I give it a try, for science.
Although Hard Rock is not really Metal, like I've been noticed several times
Yes, I'm talking about you, the 3 fastidious guys in the front row.
I will keep talking about it in my shows, because it's close to it,
and because I very much like Hard Rock !
It's true that it is a bit different because "softer" musically,
but Hard and Metal are often put together,
either by poorly informed journalists or festival organizers
who know that many Metaheads enjoy Hard Rock too.
And we'll start by the biggest Hard Rock band of the planet :
AC/DC !
We don't introduce them anymore, they are everywhere, they fill stadiums,
and they have an army of fans going from the simple rock'n'roll lover
to the die-hard fan who lives only for the band.
No need to say more, even you who are discovering the genre with me have ever heard of them before,
let's switch to the next example-band : Nashville *** !
Coming from the USA, the band distances itself from other by being 50% composed by women,
in an environment where sadly, we don't see that many girls on stage !
But they're not less effective, on the contrary,
they play a good ol' Hard Rock that smells Jack Daniels and make you *** your head !
And, to finish with Hard Rock, here's a kick-*** young Australian Band :
Airbourne !
A band with a huge potential, that plays very energic and rockin' shows,
I would advise to go see them live if you have a chance, by the way.
And their fans are already crazy !
Musically, Hard Rock is characterized by those hoarse voices,
and pretty simple rythms and chords, unlike the next genre.
Thrash Metal was born in the early 80's, and one of its icons is Megadeth !
It's fast, sharp, and it's awesome !
Alright, I might not be objective, it's one of my favorite bands,
but we can't deny that all the musicians who have played in the band are very talented,
and it's clear that Megadeth is a band of quality and influence.
Other icon of Thrash that I mentioned in the last episode :
Slayer !
Another subscriber to wild double drum bass rythms and lyrics that would give nightmares to children !
But Slayer is a band that remains true to itself, and that excels in this genre.
Thrash musicians are great technicians, so their songs are more complex than most of the others metal genres.
We'll finish with a young band too :
Gama Bomb !
With a video that makes a perfect transition to the next genre :
Black Metal !
Black Metal is an extreme metal genre, and is very controversial.
Its characteristics are mega fast drums rythms, dissonant melodies and a screaming singer.
It is very developed in Scandinavia, and mainly in Norway, the contry of the 2 bands I wil talk to you about,
starting with Mayhem !
Considered a Black Metal pioneer, the band sings about death, violence, occult, satanism
and many more subjects as joyful as these ones !
Death is also present in the band, because one of their singers killed himself,
and one of their guitarists was murdered.
Black Metal is some serious stuff !
The next band is called Gorgoroth.
Also dark and brutal, I would advise children and catholics not to watch this video.
Oh, sorry ! Let's skip to the next genre if you agree !
Like its name states it, Folk Metal is inspired by folkloric music from different horizons,
such as Celtic, Irish, Scandinavian music...
and it often includes traditionnal instruments.
And we'll start with a finnish band called Korpiklaani !
As we can see in many song titles from the band, like "Beer, beer" and "***",
these guys haven't lost party traditions from the old times !
It's like a Metal version of drinking songs, a bit classier, though !
Another finnish Folk Metal band :
Ensiferum !
They use growl in the singing, and they use keyboards to replace traditionnal instruments,
But it doesn't affect the quality of the songs.
And I'm sure all the sound guys who watch this video will agree that it's easier than trying to voice a flute in a Metal band.
Big up guys, we know it ain't easy being a sound guy in Heavy Metal !
For the last band, I hope you haven't forgotten your hat and your bottle of Rum,
because the guys of Alestorm don't take piracy slightly !
And that's the end of this video !
I'll continue with metal genres in a next episode,
because I have to go drinking at the tavern and screw some wenches before going to sea !
I'll see you later for another episode of "Metalliwhat ?", in the meantime take care, and cheers !
It was "Metalliwhat ?"
A show on metal presented by Hubert
Thanks to Angus for his participation (No animals were harmed during the video)
Thanks for watching and see you later !
