Speed interview with Jim Power, AKA the "Mosaic Man" to most New Yorkers. For over 25 years, this Vietnam veteran and longtime and very visible resident of the East Village, has created arguably the largest public arts project in New York City. Jim’s series of mosaics on sidewalks, stoops, lampposts, planters, storefronts, and interior and exterior signage is some of the most recognizable, lasting, and universally acclaimed work by a local artist. In 2004, Jim was was inducted into the City Lore Peoples Hall of Fame for beautifying the city with his distinctive, artful mosaics and received an official proclamation from Mayor Bloomberg recognizing him for his work.
