Hi, I'm Gustavo Brigante
I'm the first artist of the Fotolia Ten project this year.
I will now show you the work I did for this project
Through the creation I made for Fotolia TEN
and due to the fact that I had a free theme to choose from
and the chance to work on something of my interest,
I thought that choosing a theme
about an invitation to work
would be interesting. I wanted to be able to integrate it within a world
that is associated with more frivolous things.
The construction of the image started from a clearly seen central axis
in which there is a scene,
and all the rest grew around it -- almost in an organic way,
just like a plant that grew from a seed
into the sides, forward and backwards.
The process starts
almost like every other process, on paper and not on computer.
Second step after
working fast on the paper sketch
was to create the necessary shapes
bringing some objects from Illustrator,
ginving them a 3D shape,
and making the main composition and most of the objects with this tool.
In particular in the sketch, I planned
to have three people in the central scene.
Two of which I wanted to be women
and have certain characteristics and colors,
for example in their clothes or way they dressed.
It is here where I searched on Fotolia
for photos with that type of characteristic,
and after a short period of time I found
perfectly what could fit with not only the style
but all the general aesthetics that
I needed in order to show the idea.
But I needed one more picture for the central part
and had specific things in mind for
the details and objects that
the person was going to wear.
So I spoke with the photographer,
went to his studio
and did that part for Fotolia's TEN project.
Once I got the RAW images from the photographer,
I imported them into Photoshop, and in Camera RAW
and made some basic adjustments,
mostly on tones, some adjustment of shadows and exposure
that this RAW format allowed without damaging the image.
This is a very important step so that the image
will not look as if it's coming from
an external source and looks like
it was created in the same way as the environment.
The most technical process is when we enter 3D
where we have the shapes we want to use,
- some from libraries and others we export -
all to which we give volume via different tools
like, for example, "Extrude".
Once we have all the objects
and all the composition in 3D ready,
and before the final render takes place,
it is important that the whole scene in 3D
is prepared correctly so I can work on it later in Photoshop.
What is necessary
in order to work with each individual object or group of objects later is
to assign it an alpha channel
to these elements
in order to have the pre-selection
ready, without having to select the objects
manually in Photoshop later.
we are going to divide the images in layers.
We are going to order them in a way that they go
from front to back so that we can use
different techniques in between these layers, for example,
level layers and adjust layers.
For instance, those elements that are more in the back,
will always have a bigger distance
and will have values in black become smaller.
These sort of details
we must consider at the moment
of editing and composing in 3D
when using Photoshop.
Thank you for watching this video.
I hope you enjoyed it,
and will download and enjoy the PSD file available on the website.
