Embedding components on surfaces is key to understanding how clearString works.
Here we are going to use a simple example of embedding a Site Tree component onto
the surface of a page.
We use the floating toolbox to switch to the edit view of a blank page.
We then select the special embed tool in the Text Editor menu.
This will open a list of the components and widgets available to embed on this page
surface
The items on this list will vary depending on the surface
and site configuration.
For this simple example we are going to select a 'Site Tree' component.
This will embed a live view of the website tree onto the page surface.
In the edit view of the surface we see the place holder for the embedded component.
When we save the page, it will refresh to show the live tree view.
So how did we do this?
Using the floating toolbox we switch to the Layout View of this website application.
On the right we see the site itself made up of components drawn from the left column.
Previously we had selected a 'Site Tree' component and added it to the web site
by dragging it into place in the right column
as we showed in a previous video clip.
That simple action makes the fully configurable Site Tree component available.
Its actions are then controlled by using its own behavior editor.
All components are embedded in the same way by adding the component to the site tree,
configuring them as required and then embedding them on a surface.
clearString gives you advanced functions without scripting or manual coding.
