BATMAN V SUPERMAN vs. CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
So I pretty much made this video over a year ago talking about Captain America 3 and Batman
vs Superman going head to head on the same release date. Now, the release dates have
changed a bit but they’re still in every way going against each other. So now that
we’ve seen some stuff from Dawn of Justice and Marvel is in a different position than
they were a year ago, this could be an interesting video with a different ruling at the end.
Here I’ll be talking about which one will make more money and which one will be better.
So firstly, which one will make more money. In my first video I said Batman v Superman,
but now we know that Captain America 3 will be Civil War, so this is much more of a contest
now. It’s now taking two of the most popular superheroes in recent memory, giving them
a team each, and pitting them against each other for an interesting reason. This will
also have the first appearance of Black Panther, a character fans have been clamoring to see
for years, and the first appearance of Marvel’s Spider-Man, which should help this make a
couple million more dollars alone. Plus it’s got the directors of a lot of people’s favorite
MCU movie returning. On the other hand, Batman v Superman is pitting arguably the two biggest
superheroes of all time against each other. Plus it’s introducing Wonder Woman, Aquaman,
and maybe the Flash. Also the promotional material for it so far, specifically the comic
con trailer, has looked amazing, and fans are really getting behind this. However, on
the negative side, Batman v Superman is following up Man of Steel, which is a film that I liked,
but a lot of people really hated. It’s got a lot of the same creative team from that
film as well. As for negatives for Civil War, well, Marvel has hit a bit of a rough patch
recently. Just a year ago they were doing great with The Winter Soldier and Guardians,
two of their biggest hits to date. But then after Age of Ultron, which most fans really
loved but left some disappointed, and Ant-Man, which everyone loved but didn’t do great
at the box office, at least as of right now. It hasn’t opened in China yet though, which
has saved a lot of other movies that initially weren’t faring so well. What I’m trying
to say is that while a lot of people like myself are still totally on board with Marvel
and superhero movies, people are beginning to see cracks in the armor. So that...might...hurt
this. Honestly, this is a really hard prediction to make, and it could very easily go either
way. Especially if one of these films ends up not being very good. Word of mouth is still
the thing that hurts a film's box office the most. Both of these will definitely make a
billion dollars, at least. I’ll say this, if Batman v Superman gets...mixed to positive
reviews, and Civil War gets great ones, then I think Civil War will make more. But just
based on name recognition and what we’ve seen so far, I’ll say Batman v Superman.
Now for the quality. Which film will be better? Again, this is a lot harder now, because after
seeing the trailers for Batman v Superman, it actually looks amazing. Not only do the
trailers look great, but so far the costume designs and stylistic choices have all looked
pretty cool to me. Also I’ve totally come over to Ben Affleck’s side. Eisenberg though,
we’ll have to wait and see. The action looks spectacular, it looks like this will get more
in depth with the characters and show us a Batman we’ve never seen before. On the negative
side, it is being directed by Zack Snyder, who doesn’t have an amazing track record,
and also didn’t do an amazing job with Man of Steel. He did a good job, not an amazing
one. Also, this film got delayed, and I’m not entirely sold on all of the cast yet.
They could end up blowing me away, Heath Ledger style, but some of them, I’ll need a bit
more before I can say that I’m fully with them. As for what Captain America: Civil War
has going for it, well, a lot. As previously mentioned, the Russoes are coming back, they
did an excellent job with The Winter Soldier. The cast is also stacked, with more characters
than any Marvel film yet. It’s also taking inspiration from one of my favorite comics,
and while I haven’t seen it, everyone who’s seen the D23 trailer says it looks awesome.
What it has going against it, not much. My only real concern is that it’ll have character
overload. This probably won’t happen but The Winter Soldier had a relatively small
roster. I mean, Black Widow, Falcon, Nick Fury, Bucky, Robert Redford were all there,
but it was mainly focused on Captain America. If they try to divide up the screen time then
it could lead to trouble. Don’t think they’ll do that though cuz the Russoes, they seem
like they would know how to handle this kind of thing. Also, while I am really excited
to see Spider-Man in the MCU, like I’ve said before, he should have a small role.
I don’t want this to be a Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man film. It should be Cap
and Iron Man with the supporting cast there for the big epic battle. So again, this could
really go either way. But again, I think I’m gonna go with Civil War. You can call me a
Marvel fanboy, whatever, but based on the track record, I think it’ll be better.
So yeah. Same results as I got last time. Kind of funny, but it is interesting to look
at these films now that we know so much more about them and now that so much has changed.
So those are my thoughts on Batman v Superman and Captain America: Civil War going up against
each other, kind of. Which do you think will make more money and which do you think will
be better. Let me know your thoughts down below. Be sure to like this video, check out
