Hi, I'm Kristen and you're watching 'The Fan Club.' Super Bowl Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!
The Super Bowl is over -- the Seattle Seahawks won the championship. They beat out the Denver
Broncos, 43-8. It was a tough game watching, man, because the Seahawks were making all
these touchdowns and the Broncos were just not making any. They got one, which is better
than getting none -- you got to admit that. Leading up to the Super Bowl people would
ask me: are you rooting for the Seahawks, are you rooting for the Broncos? And I'm like,
I'm just waiting for Bruno Mars to come out there because, honestly, I was just there
to watch the halftime show and the funny commercials. And I have to admit, I was actually kind of
a little bit disappointed -- there were some funny commercials, but I feel like last year
there was a lot more. But the commercials that I really enjoyed this year...the Doritos
Time-Travel commercial -- that one was really funny when the guy thought he traveled back
in time -- "Ahhhh, you're old! I traveled into the future!" -- but he really wasn't,
but it was very funny. The Radio Shack commercial, where the '80s called and they wanted their
stuff back. There's Dee Snider and Teen Wolf and Chucky. Oh my god, Chucky's still scary
even now. And there was Alf and the DeLorean! The beautiful, beautiful DeLorean -- I just
wish that that was my car. It's such a cool car! Anyway, there was the Budweiser commercial
that was beautifully one about the military tribute. It was just very, very touching.
The Muppets and Terry Crews commercial was so funny, when they're doing the whole song-and-dance
routine, Terry Crews gets really into it. There was all the Muppets and Beaker was there
and he's so cute! He's my favorite. "Meep, meep, meep, meep!" Another funny, but kind
of weird, commercial was Stephen Colbert and the pistachio nuts because the first commercial
that they did was just him talking about how he was going to be promoting them, and then
the second one there was all this branding everywhere and then he cracks open his head
and he reveals that he is actually a pistachio, and it was just really funny. Another commercial
I thought was really cute was the Ellen DeGeneres and Beats Music commercial where she was kind
of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and was trying to find the perfect headphones and
there was just all fun dancing. Who doesn't love anything with Ellen DeGeneres in it?
Honestly, Ellen DeGeneres is like America's Sweetheart. Seriously! Anything that Ellen
DeGeneres does is adorable and amazing. It's true, it's true. My favorite movie trailer
from the Super Bowl was 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.' I thought it was action-packed, it was
funny, and I just love Spider-Man. He's my favorite hero! He's relatable... he's a hero,
but even though he has these amazing super powers, he still has everyday problems, like
meeting girls, going to work, keeping a job, going to school, and things like that that
he has to deal with while he is Spider-Man. I am so excited for this movie. I loved the
first one. I just heart Spider-Man and I am very excited to see it when it comes out in
theatres.
Then, of course, there was the halftime show with Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I was very, very excited about it because I just think Bruno Mars is a very unique performer.
He's very, you know, soulful and very old school, doo-***-y. He has this kind of old
school-vibe where it's not about being crazy, wild, and controversial. It's more about feeling
good and loving the music and rocking out and just really enjoying the moment and I
think that that's something that's really great for a Super Bowl halftime performance.
The whole performance started out with a bunch of kids singing "Billionaire" and then it
kind of morphed a little bit and Bruno Mars was jamming out on this drum set. Fun fact,
if you noticed, the front of the drum set actually had his mom's name on it because
she passed away. Then Bruno Mars jumped into a medley of "Locked Out Of Heaven," "Treasure,"
and "Runaway Baby." Then he brought out some fancy footwork, rocking it out like James
Brown. And then the Red Hot Chili Peppers came out and they sang "Give It Away."
"Give It Away," Red Hot Chili Peppers: "Give it away, give it away, give it away now. Give
it away, give it away, give it away now."
Which I remember that song being in some video game, a skateboarding video game, back in
the day. And I remember you could do ollies and things like that. Bruno Mars came out
again and they did a little military tribute and he sang "Just The Way You Are."
"Just The Way You Are," Bruno Mars: "When I see your face, there's not a thing that
I would change 'cause your amazing just the way you are."
It was really beautiful. It was just on a small stage off to the side and they had transitions
that had fireworks that bled into the screen. It was, it was a little cheesy, but it worked.
It was good. I only had two criticisms about the halftime show. The first is that they
should've brought Bruno Mars' mic up a little bit. It was just a little too quiet. And the
second was that it just felt like a really short show. They definitely could have put
in more songs. I wanted to see more from Bruno Mars. I thought what he did was great, I just
felt like it was too short. I also loved that Bruno Mars did not lip sync. I know that the
Super Bowl has been kind of wishy-washy about that a little bit. I know back in the day
the Black Eyed Peas sang live and they just didn't have the stamina to sing live and be
really active, so it just sounded really bad. And then the next year was Madonna and Madonna
lip synched and people were bashing her because of that. So, it's kind of like a catch-22.
If you lip sync, you suck, and if you sing live but don't sound like your CD, then you
suck. You know, it's like, what can you do? But I think in the past two years, with Bruno
Mars and Beyonce, these have been artists that really had the stamina to keep going
and really have the performance ability and the vocal chops to just sing live and do crazy,
energetic things. I mean, Bruno Mars was jumping up and down, Beyonce was being Beyonce, but
they were able to not only perform, but perform really, really well and just have amazing
halftime shows. Alright, that's it. Please feel free to comment below. Let me know, what
did you think about the Super Bowl this year: did your team win? What did you think of the
