You've hit that magic number at last. You've lost all the weight that you've wanted to.
And now you want to know, how can I keep it off? So I have some tips for you that will
help you with maintaining your new figure and the weight that you've lost because the
last thing you want is to give those pounds a return ticket back on. But you have to be
vigilant. It took you, it was a hard road to lose the weight, you're going to have to
continue to monitor what you eat and be really active. In fact, studies show that physical
activity is even more important during the maintenance phase than it is during the weight
loss phase and for some people the maintenance phase is almost harder than the weight loss
phase. So don't give up. Know that your body is adjusting but you have to adjust as well.
So take a look at the habits that helped you lose the weight you need to maintain many
of them. We take a page from the National Weight Control Registry. That is a group of
successful losers who have lost weight and kept it off. And so for them we find that
the habits that helped them are eating breakfast daily, keeping a diary. Writing down what
they ate. Eating light and right. No gimmicks. No special foods but most of the time eating
a healthful diet. And one thing that's really remarkable in the maintenance phase is that
physical activity seems to be more important. So the people in the National Weight Control
Registry, the majority of them walk, so simple form of exercise, but probably close to an
hour a day. So it's a lot of time to commit to it but you can increase the intensity and
do it for a little less or do it in increments. But maintaining your weight loss, it takes
vigilance. It takes constant vigilance because it's so easy for that weight to come back
so you want to make sure that your lifestyle supports it. That you're eating healthfully.
That you're active. And that you, when you get on the scale on a regular basis you'll
get the alert, that oh no, it's creeping back up and then you have to adjust accordingly.
So it can be done. It's been done over and over again. You see the individuals being
paraded across the TV and in magazine that losing lots of weight but in order to do it
and keep it off you need to be vigilant. So stay the course and you'll be successful.
