Welcome to Biology 14, Spring 2014. My name's Russ Di Fiori and I'll be your instructor.
Right now I'm out in the Mojave desert doing a little bit of surveying around the junction
between the Mojave and the Sonoran desert to the south of me. Anyways I like to work
in the field that is my favorite thing to do. This is where I'm most alive and I feel
most in touch with nature and I hope that this semester I can share a little bit of
that with you. Although we'll be working mostly in the surrounds nearby Pasadena City College
, um, I'll be coming out to the desert almost every weekend this Spring to do some surveys;
I'll be working with the Desert Institute on developing some programs for them and so
I'm getting to know a lot of new plants and new animals this semester and I hope you will
too. The course is generally outlined around projects. It's a project based field course
where you learn things by doing them and there's an online component which you want to make
sure your on top of, but otherwise you'll get to know things just by doing 'em, and
the projects I hope to have designed for you this semester will hopefully take you around
all the different aspects of the class that are required and I think you find it's a pretty
fun way to do your science requirements. Anyways, I hope you have a great semester, I look forward
to meeting you. See ya.
