You have probably drawn with coloured pencil before.
My favorite colored pencils are Polychromos. They have extra fine pigments and you can create very nice smooth effects.
Before you start with the drawing you should think about the colours you want your picture to have.
Therefore it's helpful to know already what you wanna draw becuase the colours should underline the mood of your theme.
Once you decided for your colour spectrum we start to draw the outlines on a thicker piece of paper with a rough surface.
On smooth paper the pigments wouldnt hold as good.
After you did the outlines of your image with a quite light tone - fill the first area with one tone.
First it will be quite rough, but after drawing over it a few times - it will get nicely smooth.
This works best with Polychromos.
For getting a harmonic colour effect - I recommend to avoid using black.
Use instead the darkest tones of your chosen colour range - I am using in this example purple and blue.
The drawing gets darker on the parts you draw over more often. This you can use at the same time for creating a feeling of plasticity.
The whole drawing is a slow process where you get step by step closer to the result.
If you are in a hurry you may not get a nice result - couse you need a bit of a feeling and sensitivity for balancing the intensity of your colour and contrast.
But no worries. With some pratctise you will get the feeling for that.
If I could inspire you to give the good old colour pencils another try - I am glad.
Have fun! And - See you soon.
