Imagine you had the opportunity to develop an area as big as a football field in the
center of Berlin! You could live there together with a lot of
great people in a shared housing project! You could furnish a workshop to repair bikes
and build furniture! You could start up a kindergarden with lots
of space for kids to play! You could plant fruit trees and vegetables
in the garden! You could open up a cafe for everyone!
All this may become possible on the grounds of a former policestation in Berlin.
Hi, we're from the
initiative Rathausstern Lichtenberg and plan to buy a 6000 m² area located in the Rathausstraße
12 in Berlin Lichtenberg. Right now the property belongs to the city of Berlin. The city wanted
to sell it to the highest bidder last year, but we launched a successful campaign to change
the procedure to include non-financial aspects so we can participate with our non-for-profit
concept.
This new procedure called "Konzeptverfahren" is supposed to feature mainly social and cultural
criteria. If our concept wins in this procedure, we're going to open the fence and be able
to realise all the ideas which have piled up over 2 years and new ideas yet to come.
To begin realizing that vision, people will move into the former police station. The building
can provide room for up to 30 people, who can help getting some of the many projects
up and running.
Some projects involve art spaces, another focusses on a neighborhood cafe. We have plans
for co-working offices and open workshops. One special project will be an open neighborhood
garden, along the lines of popular urban gardening projects. If we can, we want to cooperate
on educational projects with schools in the neighborhood.
Another central idea is to establish our own kindergarden on the grounds. Just imagine
the possibilities for kids there to experience, discover and even participate in offers especially
designed for kids.
That sounds like a lot of work, and it is. We ve been working intesively on this project
for many months. And we have already gotten a lot of support, but we are always open to
people wanting to participate in our initiative. To get in contact with us, just send us an
email.
Unfortunately, with a big and expensive project like this, finances are always an issue. We
still need, and will keep needing financial support. We have set up a system of micro
credits that makes contributing easy and attractive for almost everyone. For more information
check our website or contact us personally to get more information.
The easiest and quickest way of supporting us is to tell friends and relatives about
us. Spread the word and please point to our website.
We look forward to seeing you in Berlin Lichtenberg!
