RICK TOBEY: Hello. I'm Rick Tobey and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to teach some
blues guitar techniques. Now, this exercise involves the same hammering and pulling but
you might be in a position on the neck or on a scale where you can't play an open string.
So you'll need to anchor your index finger on a fret and then you can hammer and pull
with your other fingers, for example. You've probably heard guitar players play riffs like
that, so this exercise will develop your skill to be able to do that. And what we're going
to do is we're going to do it in pairs, always going to anchor with the index finger, and
we simply are going to hit the note, hammer it with the next finger and pull it off like
that. So, we'll try doing that up six strings. And it doesn't really matter what order you
do your fingers, it's just the idea that you're hitting a note and then you're going to hammer
and pull it. Now, a good way to do this exercise is really to do just two fingers at a time
as a pair; it's like this.
And then the next string pair. And you can mix it up a bit if you want. So that's the
hammer and pull in the closed position; very, very useful blues guitar technique.
