HELD A TOWN HALL IN DOVER
TONIGHT, ADDRESSING A WIDE RANGE
OF TOPICS.
BEFORE TAKING QUESTIONS AT HER
TOWN HALL IN DOVER, HILLARY
CLINTON ADDRESSED THE MASS
SHOOTING IN CALIFORNIA,
EXPRESSING CONFIDENCE LAW
ENFORCEMENT WOULD ZERO IN ON A
MOTIVE.
HILLARY CLINTON: WE WILL LEARN
MORE ABOUT WHAT WENT ON AND WHO
THESE PEOPLE WERE.
AND WHAT THEIR MOTIVATIONS WERE.
BUT IT'S BECOMING CLEARER THAT
WE ARE DEALING WITH AN ACT OF
TERRORISM.
SHELLEY: AND THE FORMER
SECRETARY OF STATE SAYS, IT
REINFORCES AN ISSUE OF CRITICAL
IMPORTANCE TO HER, NATIONAL
SECURITY.
IT DOES RAISE SOME SERIOUS
QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW WE NEED TO
BE PROTECTING OURSELVES, HOW WE
NEED TO BE SURE THAT WE HAVE THE
BEST POSSIBLE INTELLIGENCE, THAT
IS SHARED BETWEEN LOCAL LAW
ENFORCEMENT, STATE, FEDERAL LAW
ENFORCEMENT, AND THAT WE DO
EVERYTHING WE CAN TO PREVENT
THESE KINDS OF ATTACKS.
SHELLEY: FROM THERE, CLINTON
TOOK QUESTIONS, STARTING WITH
ONE FROM A 4TH GRADER, CONCERNED
ABOUT THE NATION'S HOMELESS.
IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE
OUGHT TO BE SOME THOUGHT GIVEN
TO HOW WE CAN PREVENT PEOPLE
FROM BEING EVICTED OR RENDERED
HOMELESS, IN THE FIRST PLACE,
AND THAT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE IN
THE SHORT RUN, A CHEAPER WAY TO
DEAL WITH THE CHALLENGE THAN
HAVING THEM OUT ON THE STREETS
AND THEN HAVING TO BE HELPED.
SHELLEY: IN ADDITION TO THIS,
CLINTON SAID SHE INTENDS TO
RAISE ECONOMIC STANDARDS FOR ALL
AMERICANS.
AS PRESIDENT, I WANT TO LIFT
EVERYBODY ECONOMICALLY, I WANT
TO GET BACK TO WHERE WE'RE
HAVING BROAD BASED PROSPERITY,
WHERE THERE ARE GOOD JOBS THAT
ARE PAYING WELL AND WAGES ARE
RISING.
SHELLEY: OTHER ISSUES ADDRESSED
AT TONIGHT'S TOWN HALL INCLUDED
CLINTON'S DESIRE TO INTRODUCE
PAID FAMILY LEAVE, CLIMATE
