Stan Speaks - October 2012 - 1/6

Good evening everyone. Welcome to the downtown library here in Modesto. Were doing another Stan Speaks monthly panel. Stan Speaks is a monthly forum sponsored by the Stanislaus County Library Foundation and the foundation is composed of a bunch of library freaks who love words, books and dewy decimal systems. So we try to read every night. We've done this for the past 18 months. Tonights topic is "Religion In The Valley...Who Cares?" and if you lived here, any length of time, you know lots of people care about religion. Uh... the valley The Central Valley of California has a reputation for being the bible belt of California and a place in the western United States that is as fervent religious activity, has been for years. Thousands of churches with hundreds of thousands of parishioners in the congeration. Tonight we have two pastors who will examine religions popularity. and let me introduce both of these men of god. Pastor Jeff Pishney grew up in Iowa. Went to college and graduate school in Virginia. and served at big valley grace community church since 1995. Today he oversees all of the churches global and local outreach endeavors. He is a founder for a small, insignificant community event called Love Modesto. I'm sure you have all heard of it. He's also created Love Our Cities. those community wide volunteer days are now in over 40 cities and they make a difference. He's also Director of Development of C.M.N. a local non profit. organization up in Modesto leaders that influence and work together to transform our community. He loves his faith, his wife Karen, his children Haden and Ally, the Iowa Hawkeye's who are 4 and 4 in the... ~LAUGHS~ is the It's their last game too. and he also likes anything Mac and I was thinking, that I assumed like in Apple and not in tea.
