>>STEVE WILLIAMS: We're in Serre, on the Somme
on the font line trenches where the Chorley Pals went over the top on the 1st of July 1916.
It's the 21st of January 2010
We're at the Chorley Pals tree
This is the tree, John, were you put this plaque up, when?
>>JOHN GARWOOD: 1998
>>STEVE: 1998
>>JOHN: March or April 1998 it was done
Paid for by me.
It replaces the original wooden one which was there from the 9th of September 1985
to sometime in 1997 when it disappeared.
And it says:
"The 11th East Lancashire's, In memory of the Chorley Pals 'Y' Company..."
"...who lost their lives here on 1st of July, 1916".
