I KNOW THEY DO. I
YOU REALLY DID A NICE JOB. N
GLAD YOU'RE BACK SAFELY.
SANDY BROUGHT HIGH WINDS AND
WAVES TO THE VIRGINIA BEACH
OCEANWAV FRONT.
O COVERINGN HAS BEEN
THISHAS STORM FROM THE LAST THRE
DAYS OR SO AS WELL AND IS LIVE
ART?
YEAH, I WAS IN SANDBRIDGE
TODAY EARLIER.
THAT'S A SMALL BEACH COMMUNITY
ON THE S SOUTHERN TIP OF O
VIRGINIA BEACH.
YOU KNOW, IT'S TYPICALLY HIT
HARD BY COASTAL STORMS, BOTHMS
NOREASTERS AND HURRICANES, BUT
SEEMS THIS STORM REALLY HAD IT
IN FOR ONE FAMILY, IN
PARTICULAR, DOWN THERE.
WITH SANDY GONE, THE OCEAN IS
QUIET NOW AND THE BEACHFRONTNT
HOMES IN SANDBRIDGE ARE STILL A
STANDING.
PROPERTY OWNERS SURPRISED TORT
FIND MINIMAL DAM.
WE HAVE THE FENCING PANELS
EVERYWHERE --
HEAVY EQUIPMENT WAS PUSHINGT
SAND OFF SAND FIDDLER ROAD AND A
BEACHFRONT PROPERTY OWNERS AREEY
DIGGING OUT SWIMMING POOLS AND
DECK FURNITURE.
UNMANAGEABLE.
UNTIL YOU GO A LITTLE FURTHER
SOUTHU GO TO THE BEACHFRONT HOMF
DON AND MY SELL TOMLINS WHERE
THE DAMAGE IS UNTHINKABLE.
TOMLIN SAYS THE WIND RIPPED THES
BACK DOOR OFF THE HOUSE OPENINGE
SURGE.
MUCH OF THE BEACH IS NOW IN HISH
LIVING ROOM.
AFTER GOING THROUGH HURRICANE
ISABELLE SEVEN YEARS AGO, I
WASN'T EXPECTING THIS.
THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE'S'S
UNAWARE OF THE RISK OF OWNING A
HOME ON THE BEACH BUT HE WAS A B
LITTLE SURPRISED BY SANDY.
IT'S ALWAYS CONCERNED ME, YOU
KNOW, THE STORM SURGE, BUT, YOUS
KNOW, WITH THE HURRICANE BEING
350 MILES OUT, I JUST DIDN'T
THINK IT WOULD BE QUITE THISUL
BAD, OBVIOUSLY.
IN FACT, HE DIDN'T EVEN BOARD
UP THE HOUSE FOR THIS STORM.
I DON'T THINK T IT WOULD HAVE
MATTERED, AS YOU CAN SEE.
HE AND HIS WIFE OWNED THIS
HOME 13 YEARS AND IN THAT TIME N
LEARNED A LIFE LESSON NOT
UNFAMILIAR TO OTHER COASTAL O
RESIDENTS.
IT'S AOAS DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD.
WHEN YOU LIVE NEAR THE OCEAN YOU
GET THE BEAUTIFUL END BUT ALSOUL
VERY DANGEROUS. A
I GUESS WE SAW HOW DANGEROUS IT
CAN BE.
YEAH, I ASKED DON TOMLIN IF
HE HAD ANY IDEA WHY SANDY
SINGLED HIM OUT.
HE LAUGHED AND SAID HE DIDN'T SA
KNOW.
MAYBE HE IT HAD TO DO WITH THE E
OF HIS HOUSE.
HIS HOUSE WAS CALLED LUNASEA.
