“Live” Impressionist painting created in Rouen, France. On Saturday, June 5, some
1,250 people assembled to form a living montage called “Monet Seen from the Sky” ("Monet
vu du ciel"). Each person held above their heads an enlarged section of a painting reproduction
created originally by French Impressionist master painter, Claude Monet as one of a series
he painted of the Rouen Cathedral. As they gathered in front of the Rouen City Hall among
distinguished participants who included former prime minister Laurent Fabius and Rouen Mayor
Valerie Fourneyron, the group formed what they hoped would be considered the world's
largest live Impressionist painting. Their 600-square-meter final composite artwork was
photographed aerially for submission to the Guinness Book of World Records, with the event
also marking the beginning of the city’s summer-long Normandie-Impressionniste Festival.
What a creative way to come together in a shared love of gifted artistry! Our best wishes
all painters, organizers and participants for a colorful, joyful and memorable festival
of Impressionist art
