Climbing in the Gorge is absolutely gorgeous.
It's awesome climbing on sandstone - nice and grippy.
and the approaches are short but beautiful.
You can literally wake up, go to meet your climbing guide,
drive five minutes to have access to several different climbs,
multiple different rappels that are excellent for anyone from a beginner
to an intermediate climber.
Rock climbing is really challenging.
Sometimes you get to points where you think you can't go any more.
and then you find, somehow, a way to get up.
You make it up another one or two steps, and then another one or two steps and keep going.
Then finally you reach the top and you felt like you accomplished something.
My favorite thing about guiding
is probably taking people out for the first time.
You get to kind of experience their first times
over and over and you can see it in their faces.
I get to watch people figure things out on their own
and when they ask me for help, I can give it to them.
Especially when they think they want to come down
and then they finally get to the top of the route after I've coached them through.
That's probably my favorite part.
It's really fulfilling for both them and me,
from a teaching perspective and from an accomplishment perspective.
One of the greatest things about living at ACE and working here
is the fact that we actually get to come out here and use all these things.
To climb and go on the river and it's really fun and rewarding
for the fact that when you guys come, the customers,
we get to take you guys out and do what we like to do for fun.
The best part of the day was the guides.
because they were always being safe,
and they were always encouraging you,
and you can always trust them.
You want to give up,
but because the guides encourage you, you don't.
