SOME LAST
MINUTE GIFTS...I'VE GOT A COUPLE
OF GADGETS YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY
IN YOUR
DAILY DOT COM.
< It's nicknamed the iPhone
home remote.. A device no
bigger than my hand that plugs
into
the wall so you can turn off
your home electronics no matter
where you are.
Think of it as a home automation
system --you know --linking up
lights, heat, door locks, and
other systems with computerized
controls. But instead of
costing thousands of dollars the
WeMo runs around fifty bucks. It
runs on your iPhone and WiFi
connection and
is controlled by an app on your
smartphone or tablet.
We pulled in this curling iron
to give the device a try.
Set up was rather simple - after
you plug it in you'll be asked
to set up the WeMo
network...from there, launch
the app, and plug in the device
you want to control.
You can then tell the WeMo when
you want your device to come on
...and when to turn off.
As long as you have an internet
connection you've got control at
your fingertips.
So if you left the house in a
hurry and aren't sure if you
turned off the heater or in this
case the curling
irons, you can turn it off when
you get to work or even from a
plane.
The WeMo works with just about
any of your home electronics -
like an iron, fan, lamp, coffee
pot, television, or heater.
You can control as much or as
little of your house as you'd
like --depending on how many
WeMo's
you have in your home.
