Uh hey YouTube um
I'm just bored, so I thought I'd make a video
I'm sorry
My voice is kind of weird I'm kind of sick
Anyway um
I wanted to talk about something
that uh...
me and a co-worker discussed at school
a week or two ago
and that's this
racist or formally racist toothpaste called uh
well it used to be called darkie toothpaste
but now it's called darlie toothpaste
(clears throat)
in chinese the way it's written it's called black person toothpaste
so basically there was this toothpaste
that used to be called darkie
which was uh
brand of um
which was under this brand called Hawley & Hazel
which was uh first
manufactured in like nineteen thirty three
i'm reading off of Wikipedia yeah
so
I can tell you guys all the facts
and apparently Hawley & Hazel was bought in nineteen eighty five
by uh... colgate and palmolive which is a u_s_ corporation
and um
they changed the name colgate
from darkie to darlie cuz
obviously their a u_s_ corporation and they know how racist
the name darkie is
especially with a picture like that as you can see with the
with the kinda stereotypical like nineteen thirty style black guy with the
big eyes and the giant teeth and everything and yeah
anyway um
apparently another weird fact is uh
that the...
the brand was shown
in the movie uh... the confederate states of america
so yeah there's that
um anyway yeah
hope you guys found this interesting and uh
don't worry the toothpaste is no longer so blatantly racist
but uh... according to my coworker
who originally told me about this uh...
uh... just about everyone
in taiwan is uh... quote-unquote a soft racist
so uh...
yeah there's that
anyway don't be put off about coming to taiwan cuz I said that
but um
just be aware that uh
when you travel in taiwan or the far east in general
there is just uh...
a bit of
a bit of the uh soft racism
alright uh
thanks for listening bye
