Hey, Bart Miller here with Cycling Strong 2013 Interbike we are having the time of our
lives we have got some
I mean awesome interviews hope you guys watch small you haven't
please go through watch them make the comments below get all those vendors to
answer your questions why you got the opportunity
so we could not leave the show without talking to specialized I mean come on
y'all know I ride specialized s-works
race at thing I beat up by Cup love it my son can't wait for me to get a new
bike so he can ride it so
anyway we found Chris he was running through nice enough to get the second
peacetime
he's gonna walk us through I think one thing you guys a bit ask a lot of
questions about
which is the disc brakes what bikes are on how they're working
and where is this disc brake market really gonna go I know there's a lot of
questions on that
a lot a conversation about that so Chris gonna give you the mic
Skylar energies guys pretty sharp always dress okay
think your copyright has get her to get on a plane so
so here's the thing you know for for us it specialized we really want support
roe desk and and and everything that it's doing and we've had a lot of
questions about
you know where does the performance by Anna right and everybody seems to think
that it's
it's wet weather on all this whether policies
sure what you know aerodynamics is a is a big thing for specialized as well but
specifically with this great you know we get a lot of questions about how's it
gonna help you breaking performance
and a lot of people tend to think oh it's only a wet weather thing I don't
need it because it's on the web
right well we've looked at it and we've taken a lot of time with it and we
worked a lot with SRAM in with some of our other companies
Shimano to work on their debts brake systems to make sure that when we add it
to a bike
it's not just gonna end up being a wet weather tool right
what we want to do is wanna build bikes are going to provide the most
performance to any writer and so in this case this year
for 2014 we've got the new as works for Bay
as well as a number other a number of other basin the line
now we had this breaks these bikes to help improve on what that endurance
experience is all about
Bay is a bike design forgetting smooth making the bike smooth making
fast giving you the best possibility to get out on the road
and really enjoy what ride bikes all Catholic yet this breaks to this package
now you can dive into a corner deeper you can be on the brakes
its more safely right and on your right where you gonna go you can have a lot
more fun
so to do that it's more than just slapping a disc brake on a bike that
we've already had
that Mitt totally new development for a fork and on this bike the rebate is it
is an interesting animal because
depending on the side whether to a bike for someone like Bart or someone like
myself or someone even taller we actually have
3 specific fork sizes that's gonna help with smoothness in the front and
and that means that when we come to the disc brake bike we got three different
forks
all designed specifically to deal with the braking forces
from those desperate to any slam on a handful a break to dive into a corny
wait outside but you really gonna be able to feel the performance the frame
as you go to the back into the bike we want to make sure that it's not gonna be
compromised by having
at this breaks routed through with the big hydraulic line so the same thing
here
as the cable runs in the frame we want to make it as clear as possible pops out
right here at the back
and we end up with a really elegant really clean design now
another thing that's so great about what their Bay packages
comes back to the smoothness that the platform offers and save you look back
here
we've really taken a lot effort to make sure that these boat seat stays that
feature desserts technology
end up providing that smooth ride rather than having a couple it with the
a balky break bridge like some the cantilever bikes can do this helps to
uncoupled back and you can experience a really smooth ride
now another thing that really important for specialized and especially when you
start looking at the rib experience is what you can expect to retire
came tires are really really important and so we expect
26 see s-works turbo tire
incredibly supple casing that's going to help this smooth out any road the ego on
on top that it's going to be a ton attract we actually had a couple guys in
there
in in a bike ride last night race on these big supermoto tires
you can lead a motor for it day you can get over or so far on time
and obeys a great platform to actually show that are so far our own thank you
for coming into today let's go talk about some other products now let's go
have some fun
and one thing I want to ask really quick before you moved on is
I at the thing I like about this breaks is I mean I know that we've always had
the breaks up here before
and how does that affect the frame purse is bringing down here given the braking
power here i mean are you
is a better worse I mean everything to be a lot better because you don't have
to
but work being on the actual frame up in here pressure you know if there's
there's a lot of forces so when you grab a handful a break on a cantilever style
bike up here
you're going to get a lot of forces trying to pull that fork forward
now its its it's one thing or the other right you've got a deal that breaking
course and so here what you're going to get a lot of torsional forces trying to
torque that fork
are trying to spin it and move that rotation in the fork
same thing here we just wanna make sure that we're tech paying attention that's
we work in the test like pretty extensively
to make sure that the bike and the carbon at the Fort layup
is gonna help that to to resist a lot about twisting important in the front
and rear
what you gonna notice is incredibly strong breaking and wet or dry
again and noticed incredibly smooth front and thanks to the different banks
eyes those three forts that we talked about
and as you feel the whole package added in with the tires desserts technology
you're gonna get the smoothest ride out there
very cool all right let's move on
so hey we're right back atcha you guys all know that I went to did like bill
this year
and that specialized was all over that and Rebecca Rusch
was amazing at that event so at the lead bill camp
I was hoping to get a chance actually ride this bike almost you know that I
write this car bike right now
but one thing I love about these bikes the brain technology the problem was
everything was already checked out I was a dollar late in a day late whatever you
want to say
so I didn't get to ride the bike and then at Leadville I just was the right
time either side not actually got on one of these
%uh there's not a lot of small frames in the s-works package
and you all know me kinda like everything to be the top liner I don't
do it you know so
anyway I I've been picky I been waiting and hopefully I get all one this year
and I can do a review for you
but I wanted to make sure we went through this bike because obviously you
all know
I'm back to cross led bill again this next year
and if you're the other major races but let bill is on my list up
the bigger Bob Bach also I got Chris here I grabbed him
is going to get on a plane want to get him before he got out here so Lisa got
an expert to talk about this Chris taken away
you bet so as you guys coming apart this year had a guy I pretty stellar race at
let down
in a break in a chain cost him a little bit I'm but I do wanna talk a little bit
about what this epic package is all about so the epic for 2014 is another on
the bike for us
and what we've actually got is not just one epic but we've actually got to
so what you're looking at here is what we call the epic World Cup
now on top that we've also got another bike that is the standard
model that pic I wanna explain the difference is a little bit between them
working off to the epic World Cup that we've got here so we realize when we
start to look at you know who rides these bikes right
guys like you and i dont wanna do something like that bill but we've also
got guys like cures like a hobby right who just won the first World Cup on the
new chassis
I just last week so guys like you're a slob
they want a bike that's going to be the stiffest the fastest lightest thing
possible
and so we look at what the World Cup is all about we've actually shorten the
geometry up
about five millimeter shorter than a standard bike you look down here
it is only available with the one by drivetrain
what that actually allows us to do is remove the placement where we're going
to put that front derailleur
and then actually allows us to beef up that rear into the bike
so the back into the bike here is actually much bigger than what you find
on a standard bike
so for guys that really wanna go faster race in short short track race is there
a sin
a full-on full gas cross-country races the epic World Cup platform is going to
be the one for you
not this bike here as it comes as you're buying a specialized dealers gonna be
right around maybe twenty pounds
you throw some yes I grips on it you run it to bless you gonna be in nineteen a
half pound so think about that
for just a second year we gotta at full suspension 29 yr
at under twenty pounds that's nothin now when we look at this bike and its other
brother which is the standard epic model
we started to realize that their guys again like united did level this year
that that are gonna need a couple other things we're gonna need at tools
we're gonna need the air we're gonna need a palm we're gonna need all that
stuff that you need to get through a big long race like a 100 mile at ***
so the actual standard apec comes at the ability to slot in a multi-tool
up into the shock mount up here so you can always get to it really easily
you'll notice that these bikes also have three River nuts and what that's gonna
lie to do is to mount not only one water bottle here
and one bottle here to two bottles in the cage but you're also gonna be able
amount specialized new
swat system which is this custom box that fits into the frame
to carry a to a tire lever and a co2 had that fits into a really flash package
on top of that a bar this will be good for you yup we also came out the new Top
Cat chain tool
top catching tool fits down takes the place your existing top cap
offers you the ability to break a chain if you need to and also has a quick link
I know that would've been really helpful song really
so once you got all those things added into the standard epic model you end up
with a package
that is about 22 pounds at the efforts level but you still get that same
ultra-fast race style geometry now when you think about those two athletes you
got your ultra-fast guys like yours live in then you got us
really need speed we need comfort me what that package to be quick
another thing that we've really worked on is wheels
Rev all wheels for specialized been a big hit and this new package here
with the revol control S l's a 1340 Graham carbon wheel
that uses are hopeless technology so most people know have the inside of a
ram
it's gonna look like it's got kinda hot where your bead fits into from the tire
these guys go away from that to help at durability and how bad stiffness into
the ramsey get a 1340 Graham we'll
its gonna outperform just about anybody on the market so
that's our new epic model here and so hopefully will get China next year right
be awesome so one question I have I really had a problem with this year and
maybe this'll be addressed because the way we've done this
is I could not get on the small frame obviously two bottles
in there cannot were and will I be able to on smaller frame be able to mount a
ball in here or am I still gonna be too small cuz the chip
geology the bike to on on the bike we got here this is a large size
are you can fit two full-size wat about 24 ounce water bottles
as we move to the small bike we're gonna be able to fit two bottles but you can
have that you have to sacrifice three ounces
that okay so three outs from Boulder three houses on the answers on your back
pocket
now this is a pretty interesting thing I i want to take a look around Rs the show
here and look at the number other cross-country bike full suspension cross
country bike that fit two bodies don't
and not a big deal that is still you look at the apec that's one of the only
bikes on the market able to do that now you have to carry Camelback you can use
the SWAT system to help carry all your tools you end up getting the best of
both worlds a really smooth efficient package
with the brain technology in suspension with the super lightweight wheels the
super lightweight carbon frame
and you end up with an elegant package that holds all your spare tools
seen get back on the race recalls so wondering as you all know the reason i
ask the question is because the Leadville I measured all my water
exactly so I knew exactly what I needed from certain aid station so what is
certain times
as I pack and one bottle other time goes back into bottles
so I had those climbs figured out a way to you know what weight ratios that I
wanted to hear
in those climb so you know I fought that really hard it you know as you saw I had
to put the ball
in here turn around it was a nightmare to get figured out so I'm really excited
to give that a go at it really fits in there
thank you that would be amazing so Chris thank you for your time
I so appreciate you take the time out for our audience and I hope all you
enjoy this segment
we're gonna get specialized the link to this so they can watch it
but most of all so they can answer any of your questions if you have a question
