Basically, the objective of this class is to...
apply economics to real world kinds of problems,
and in this class it's about global hunger, and food insecurity.
Both in developing countries and in developed countries.
I really want students, first of all, to use economics in important sort of, analyzing important questions,
and I want them to understand how...
the economics of the global food system works,
I want them to be able to be analytical about things that they read, things that they see.
That pertain to food insecurity and global food questions.
What am I not getting out of the class?
I come from an interesting background of about three generations of farmers,
and they've been telling me since early on, that the way forward is to eat what you grow, grow what you eat.
I just wanted to come figure out if they were telling the truth.
We have enough food in the world, in terms of calories, to feed everyone,
but because of the inefficiencies, there are people that still go hungry.
This class sort of shows me, then, how I could help to, you know, inform policy and do research to sort of...
see what's the best way to go forward.
