Hi, and welcome back to Kat’s closet.
For some of us colour and print aren’t what we are looking for, so this week I’m going to show you how using neutral tones and adding just a hint of colour or a spark with sequins can make a classic wardrobe a little bit more exciting.
I’ll be showing you how to get these three great looks.
So I’m going to start off with some great neutrals and a sequin skirt.
and now I’m going to get some shoes.
So I wanted to start with a sequin skirt, now sequins were massive over summer and their going to be huge again for this season, but they’re not just for evening.
I wanted to show how easy it is to dress it down.
I’ve teamed this one with a classic cardigan and a t-shirt, because I don’t think you would necessarily think about putting knitwear on cotton with something so sparkly, and I hope you can see it’s very effective at giving that relaxed, but chic vibe.
I wanted to give it a bit more shape so I’ve nipped it in at the waist with this great tan belt, but overall I’ve kept all the tones very neutral.
Even down to the shoes, now they’ve got a bit of texture there, but nothing is fighting for your attention too much.
This is how to take your sequin shirt into daytime; it’s chic, it’s relaxed and it’s utterly sophisticated.
So, there’s no reason why you can’t wear sequins during the day.
Now, I’ve taken this very eye-catching top, and teamed it with some day time denim. I’ve also put it with a mac. Mac’s and parkers are huge for autumn and winter - they’re a really big story.
I’ve gone for one with a really neutral tone; it’s got a bit of a shine to it because it’s a little more sophisticated then the kaki heavy versions that are around everywhere else.
And as ever, don’t forget to roll up those sleeves; it gives it a little bit of a fashion edge.
Finish off with some ankle boots that are great for running around the town in, you’ve got an outfit that is brilliant to go out for lunch with friends or just do a bit of shopping.
As with every daytime look you’re going to need a great bag.
I’ve picked one with studs on because it gives a little bit of a masculine vibe to what essentially is quite a feminine, girly top.
Again its dressing it all down, making sure those sequins don’t look too over the top when you’re out shopping on a Saturday .
Sequins are a great way to liven up neutrals, but if sparkle isn’t your thing, why not go for a pop of neon.
So, monochrome and neon are both big stories for the season and I’ve combined the two to liven up the simple-ness of black and white.
It’s not too in your face; just a flash of neon here and a flash of neon down the side, it does its magic for you.
Following on from the Olympics sports looks have been everywhere, which means the traditional jogging pant has been given a fashion make-over.
These ones are gorgeous, I love that they’ve got this texture to it, and a little bit of sheen, which instantly makes them feel more like evening wear.
I’ve finished off with these great boots once again; they are really comfortable and work with so many things.
So you’ve got a really versatile outfit, with simple lines, a flash of colour, and I think they’ll work for pretty much any occasion.
