Hi, this is Mark from Show Me Cables, and today we are going to learn how to install
an easy RJ45 connector.
For today's project, I'm going to need two easy RJ45 connectors, my Cat5e cable, technician
scissors, strip tool, an easy RJ45 crimp tool, and a tester.
The first step is to remove the jacket. Taking the strip tool I simply rotate it around the
outside of the jacket. This slices the jacket and makes it easy to pull off.
On the inside of the cable you will see a rip cord, simply cut it off.
There will be four pairs of color coded wires. Untwist the pairs and fan them out. That will
leave you with eight conductors, or eight wires. Straighten out the wires and line them
up according to the color code.
For most standard applications, use the 568B coloring code. Then with my scissors I can
trim off the extra cable.
Unlike most RJ45 connectors, the easy RJ45 connectors have holes in the front. This allows
extra wire to go through the connector. For this connector we recommend leaving over an
inch of exposed cable.
Once I have fed the wires through the connector and I visually confirm that it matches the
color code, I can crimp it on.
Using the patented easy RJ45 crimp, tool that both crimps and cuts off the extra cable,
I have securely attached the connector. If any extra wire hangs from the tip, you can
simply pull it off with your fingers.
To make a patch cable, repeat all of the previous steps on the other side.
The final step is to test the cable. Insert the RJ45 connector into the tester.
Please note your tester might be slightly different. The green lights give us visual
confirmation that we have fully and correctly assembled the cable and it is now tested.
