Aloha, I’m Jericho. Today we’re going to explore an upscale boutique called Cake.
Can you tell us about the store?
My inspiration for Cake is helping women feel beautiful. Just being a part of that process,
when they come out of the dressing room and feel good about themselves, it’s neat to
be a part of that.
There are a lot of beautiful pieces for women when they go out. Go out to dinner, when they
go out and want to fee fancy. That’s a nice thing here on the island.
Do you have a theme?
I do, when I’m on trips, I’m always thinking about things that are classic and long-lasting,
and a key piece in your wardrobe that you can pull out and feel like you knocked it
out of the park. Can’t help myself, but that’s the goal all the time. Always trying
to get better at that.
Tell me about your designs right here. Isn’t this beautiful, this is by a little gal from
Costa Rica that landed on Kauai 10 years ago and spent several years making beautiful silk
gowns. Now she’s blasted off and moved to LA and we miss her very much, but she ships
things here every week for us, we’re very thankful to have her.
This has a nice island feel, it is elegant and artistic. This is made out of leather.
It is, she hand embellishes each piece herself. What an amazing gal.
A woman puts that on and feels completely different and transformed. Every time. It’s
form fitting and flowing, it’s very nice. You’re good, it does feel like jammies.
So comfortable you might not want to take it off.
Who designed this? Her name is Julie Mai, she is a jeweler from Hanalei. This is her
piece called The Islands. She’s got Molokai and Kauai in amethyst.
This was from a kid that came in, she was maybe 18 or 19 years old, her name is Chanterelle,
she has her dream book of designs, she comes in with her sketches and together we put the
fabrics with the designs and out she comes with amazing creations. The whole store has
lots of her pieces in it.
Our favorite here are the Hobo clutches. They come in all different colors, they’re well
made they last forever but you always want to collect all the new different colors that
come out.
This gal, her name is Any Vierra, she lives in Kilauea, and she make hand-dyed silk scarves.
She comes in on a weekly basis and lets us know what she’s doing. Different colors
every week. Isn’t that gorgeous? It’s beautiful. Makes you feel more complete, doesn’t
it? This would be a wonderful gift, it’s so colorful and nice. It would be a nice addition
to any outfit. I keep one with me when I travel as well, it’s a beautiful color.
Thank you so much for showing us all of your beautiful things at Cake. I had fun, please
come to Cake and indulge.
