Hey guys, today we're talking about the best day we've had in Australia.
That you know what we're talking about, first some pictures:
Imagine, you're on a boat
3 hours away from the shore, near the Neptune Islands
you're waiting to spot a fin.. and then this happens:
probably all the men think "BOAH"
and all the women "Ahhhh"
if not, something is kinda wrong :)
but we have to say, it was incredible
I have no words
this day was just amazing
Really important: Sea sickness tablets!!
start to take them 1 day earlier
we started the evening before
then we took again some before the trip
just read the package insert
and doublecheck with the operator
they're the real experts
you have to know that the sea can be really rough
it's definitely really important
some people got really sick and had to vomit
some of them couldn't dive anymore
and that's a pity!
How did it start?
We got picked up at the hotel at 06:15am
or you meet them at 06:30am at the harbour
It's in Port Lincoln, South Australia
the only place in Australia where you can do it
and one of the only ones in the whole world
The Operator is Calypso Star Charters
we'll put the link in the comments below
we just can say it's worth doing it
the whole day was one of our highlights in Australia
probably the TOP highlight :D
I also have to mention that the food on board was really good
it was delicious
really yummy
In the morning you start driving to the Neptune Islands
it takes approx. 3 hours to get there
and the sea can be really rough
but as soon as you arrive
everyone jumps outside
everyone is waiting
and trying to spot the first shark
then they start to put the bait in the water
and Calypso Star Charters
are one of the only ones with permission to do so
there're other operators as well
they try it with music
but no
some people say sharks are getting aggressive
but at Neptune Islands the sharks are anyway looking for food
at Neptune Islands lives a seal colony
around 40000 seals
and you have the cold water
so the sharks are anyway hanging around
and you just try to attract them shortly to the boat
and as I said
they start to put the bait into the water
and then you're standing there
and you're getting so excited
it didn't take long at all until the first shark sight
probably after 15 minutes
but it felt like 1 hour
some of the people didn't wait outside
luckily we've been waiting outside
and as you can see
the jump happened
***! the shark jumped out of the water
it was just crazy
we couldn't believe what just happened
then the action did start
first group in the water
generally they put you in different groups on the boat
we would recommend not to choose the first group
we've been in the third, that was perfect
we would say not the first or last group
because in the first group
it could be that there's only one shark
just as a small tipp
and yes, then the first group jumped into the water
we've been lucky that Laura was filming the whole time
to catch this jumping shark on camera
Laura kept filming all the time
and then it happened again
it was just crazy
you don't need any experience in diving
we never did it before
and it worked all right
we had a couple of people on the boat
they weren't able to dive
they were struggeling
but for us it was okay
I mean you just have to do it
if you wanna see the shark
that is why you're here ;)
we paid 400$ per person
and if you should think now it's too expensive
believe me it's definitely worth it!!
we probably paid for everything about 1000$
but honestly
that's a unique experience
sometimes you spend unnecessarily money
and here for this experience
it's every single cent worth
we would do it straight away again
and it's already on our bucket list to do it again
it was soooo amazing
you're in this cage
it's the biggest worldwide
there are often marine biologists and photographers
and when you're inside the cage and waiting for the shark to come
you constantly hear the Jaws theme melody
but I mean
you're waiting
and the water is freezing cold
you are wearing diving suits but it is extreme
I was freezing cold
but it was so amazing that you forget about that
everything just doesn't matter
and I promise
If you think after watching any documentary that this is amazing
I promise if you see this by yourself
it's a different thing
if you are in the near
just go to Port Lincoln and do it
it is worth spending the money
I promise it's the best investment ever
and with Calypso
it's the biggest operator
you get a garanty that they operate the day you book
on the website you find a calender
with the number of shark spottings
you can see everything on the page
usually they spot the sharks
and if you shouldn't see some
you don't get all your money back
but I mean you're on the boat, the food is amazing
and it's anyway a nice day
but if you don't see sharks
they give you a percentage of your money back
and you can come later again
What else?
they have appointments when day operate
so if only you booked a tour
yeah only you
and no one else
then they operate that day just for you
then you could be really happy :)
I would love to have the whole boat for myself :D
but as you can see
since I was little
I was dreaming about doing something like this
oh god it's so incredible
pure fascination
you can feel how important it is to protect something like this
anyway
I can highly recommend doing it
GO FOR IT!!!!
