Hey! So today it's time!
Today, I'm going to talk about Carry On by Rainbow Rowell!
This video is going to be a big mess because I didn't script anything.
And I'm starting to feel a bunch of regrets.
And I'm going to take out the cover because I'm like destroying it.
So Carry On by Rainbow Rowell!
I will try not to spoil you too much but I can't promise anything.
So if you don't want like any spoilers on the content of this book,
you should stop watching this video right now.
So the book is about Simon Snow who is a young wizard and he is going back to school after a long summer.
And it's a magical school.
So Simon is not like any others wizards, he was chosen to fight against like a dark entity called the Humdrum.
So the Humdrum, at the beginning of the book, was more like an abstract idea than actually a character.
And it's this thing eating magic and it has an effect on dark creatures and it uses dark creatures to do bad things.
So Simon, his best friend Penelope and his girlfriend Agatha fight against this dark entity since
their first year in this school.
So when you start the book, you really start at the beginning of the end of a long fight.
So you really have to catch up with where the characters are mentally at this point, in this fight,
in this book, you know.
My first favorite thing about this book is how the emotions are written.
I really liked how Rainbow Rowell wrote the emotions of her characters in Fangirl.
It was my favorite thing in the book.
And I just found like... I don't know,
she has this thing with like how to write emotions without writing them.
And you can find it again in this book and it's so brilliant.
So all the female characters in this book are so well-written,
and so great!
And one of my favorite character is like Penelope,
and she is Simon's best friend.
She has like indian origins,
and I like the fact that she never hesitates to say to Simon when like, he is saying
something she thinks is a bit offensive.
Another female character that I absolutely loved in this book,
is Agatha and she is like Simon's best friend in the beginning of this book.
So Agatha is not your typical heroine in books.
She has magic, she is going to a magical school but it doesn't interest her.
What she wants is a normal life with normal friends.
And it's okay, you know.
It's really okay.
At the end of the book, she wants to help her friends,
even if she doesn't want to be involved with all this magical stuff and all those problems.
But she thinks: "I need to help my friends because they are my friends."
But then, something happens,
and she has the choice to come back or to run away and she decides to run away,
and I really, really liked that.
Because most characters in books are just like "oh my friends are in danger, I need to go there,
even if I'm probably going to die." But no, she is like "I'm going to die if I go there, I don't want to die!"
"Why would I want to die?"
So she is just running away and it's so perfect.
I love the part where she says to Simon that she just doesn't want to be there in the background,
she doesn't want to be this second character in his story.
She wants to be the character in her story and do her things.
And I just... I love Agatha.
Maybe I like her more than Penelope.
I think. She is not our usual super heroine in fantasy books,
And this is what makes her so amazing.
So another important character in the story is Baz,
who is Simon roommate and he is like some kind of vampire.
So yeah I really liked his relationship with Simon, of course it was fantastic!
Absolutely beautiful and well-written.
And once again Rainbow Rowell like...
I love how she writes emotions!
And just relationships! I just love that!
All their dialogues were like... I need to write them somewhere to put them on my wall.
Because they were all hilarious and perfect.
So about the story itself,
it is an interesting story,
it is interesting enough that I wanted to know how it would end.
And that I... I read the book in less than three days so it was interesting enough!
But it's not like a surprising, amazing story, you know.
You can see how it will end by like the middle of the book and if you read a lot of fantasy and stuff like that,
you can already see some stuff at the beginning of the book.
You can already see like the "secrets" and stuff.
But it's still nice.
It's still a great story, it's still worth-reading.
So in conclusion, I really, really liked the relationships between the characters and
just the relationship between the characters and the characters themselves.
I really liked that.
The story is interesting but not exceptional, so it's interesting.
I mean it's okay.
And the writing is cool.
It's mostly great for the emotions.
Like the action scenes are not that interesting and
spectacular and like amazingball you know.
But how the emotions are written is really right.
I'm really nice when it comes to give grades to stuff.
I could never be a good teacher because I would always give a lot of good grades to my students.
But anyway.
So I'm giving this book a 4 out of 5. Maybe like a 3.5 out of 5, you know.
Something like in-between.
It's good but it's not like, spectacular.
I wasn't disappointed,
because my expectations weren't that high. I was excited but not that like EXCITED.
It's the kind of book that I'm a bit sad that my 14-13 years old self couldn't read and didn't have.
And now I'm just really happy that now it exists and that others 14 and 13 years old...
like now they will be able to read this book, you know.
So I would read this book again.
I think.
Yeah, I would read this book again.
So guys, those are my thoughts about Carry On by Rainbow Rowell,
So if you read this book you can tell me in the comments down below what you think about it,
and yeah guys! Thank you so much for watching this video,
I'm sorry if this thing was so disorganized,
because like... I need to script my videos. I need to script them.
So yes, thank you for watching and I will see you very soon!
Goodbye!
