COMM: Having snails creep all over your face
may sound like your worst nightmare, but it's the newest skin care craze to hit the UK.
The Simply Divine salon in Corby, north Hamptonshire,
is offering the unorthodox snail facial treatment for £50.
The testament, which lasts 20 minutes, sees
3 of the slimy creatures crawl around the forehead and cheeks.
Diane: The snails we use are found for us.
They're not garden snails, they're found organically and have a good life with us, so they're ok.
COMM: After the facial, the snails are quarantined
and separated from the others, so there is no danger of cross contamination.
The snails leave behind a trail of mucus,
which is said to contain highly beneficial proteins and anti-oxodents giving the skin
an amazing instant glow.
Diane: Snail slime as got hydrohalic acid
in there. It's got antioxidants, proteins, so for people who have got skin conditions,
scaring, it's suggested that it's very beneficial.
COMM: Diane has been working closely with
Dr Chopra, who is the clinical director of the London dermatology clinic to study the
lasting effect of snail facials.
Diane: It's very therapeutic when the snails
are placed on the skin, it's very cool, they move around very slowly and it's just that
nice relaxing treatment.
COMM: It may be unusual, but this salon is
hoping its radical new treatment will bring customers out of their shell.
