I am Hugo Barajas. My arrival here was not so much an accident.
I arrived from Montreal to see a renowned Guadalajara art collector.
His name is Dr. Álvarez.
I told him I was interested in coming to Puerto Vallarta
and asked which art gallery I should visit.
He answered "Galería Pacífico." Fortunately, (owner) Gary liked my work
and took it in in less than three days.
He liked my work, and from then on, the rest is history.
People sometimes confuse fused glass with stained glass, which can be
either leaded or with copper tinning.
Both of which are like a puzzle you have to put together.
This is very different to fused glass. You use an electrical kiln to bring glass to a
temperature of 900 °C, and you end up with a solid piece.
And that's the main difference between the three techniques.
People can easily mistake the techniques among themselves,
so it is helpful to share a brief explanation on the subject,
and how it requires a high temperature to accomplish.
For me, Galería Pacífico has been a watershed in my career,
it has been very important both locally and internationally.
When I met Gary, it was clear to me that he approaches art not only as
a gallery owner, but also as an art collector.
This is what persuaded me, plus also the fact that it was the actual
owner who spoke with me and believed on the work from the get go.
And he told me that, visually, my work had potential.
And we're going to make it happen.
He's done his share of the work and I've done mine for us to succeed.
