So many of you guys have been asking for this one, so here you go... A whole bucket of churros
These are some of the easiest sweet things you'll do, it's churros and they're made with two flours
self raising flour and a plain flour
ok, and we're going to serve them with a hot chocolate coffee sauce
Super simple!
To start with, both flours - equal quantity of each
we've got our plain flour and our self raising flour
and if you could just mix those together
two table spoons of olive oil
This doesn't involve many ingredients. A pinch of salt... Very very few ingredients
You'll be amazed at how good they taste when you see what goes into them
what we do need is 400ml of
boiling water. Adding hot liquid to the flour
It kind of semi-cooks it from the start, so it has to be boiling liquid
and it will look really mushy and like wallpaper paste
But you need to beat it really hard, get those muscles working
I haven't got many! No, we've had a few comments about your lack of muscles but carry on!
It's getting really sticky!
It should be sticky and stiff
Have a rest!
Right, in the meantime we've got our piping bag with a star nozzle, ok
and all we want to do is push this into here
So the best way is to fold back the outside
Just push it all in and you'll never
get the outside messy
And then it is quite a stiff mixture
And if you smell it, it's really nasty
But the end result
absolutely transforms. What happens if you haven't got one of these?
A piping bag? You can just spoon the mixture in, but you need to get rid of as much air as possible
You could just use a sandwich bag and cut off the corner? But you kind of need to squeeze it through something.
Ok, this is where churros become churros
It's all about their shape... They're long, stretchy shape. Ok, so if we open up our fryer, all we need to do.
I'll start one and you can do the rest
Is lower it down carefully, squeeze it down into our oil, which is up to temperature
Then just snip them off
when they're a length you're happy with, and lower them gently into that oil, ok?
Gently does it! Can I make them any size, like longer, wider, round? Absolutely, any size you want
We're going to go for quite small ones so we can put loads in together. If I squeeze, do you want to skip?
And when you're happy
Slowly lower them in... That's it...
You want to get plenty of these into the oil, all about the same sort of 30 seconds or so
so they cook together
That'll do, give our basket a bit of a shake to make sure they're not stuck together
And while we wait for those to cook, for probably 3 or 4 minutes, we can make our chocolate sauce
YES!
Now, chocolate sauce with a coffee twist
Ok, so if you can snap our chocolate into there
and into the dark chocolate we're going to ad some sugar, it's nice and sweet as well.
coffee, about a teaspoon of instant coffee, that's all you need. Some cream
all of that cream
and a little slash of
water, 50ml
Again, all these ingredients are available down below so you can get them exactly right.
But for now
These can go into our microwave for about a minute to melt and become nice and glossy
We can leave our churros to cook for a couple more minutes, our chocolate sauce to melt
and then we can show you how awesome they really are
Since these are now golden brown, I can now fish them out and roll them in sugar, and if you get our sauce from the microwave
Give them a good drain, in fact if we lift up the basket there
We'll drain them all together. This is just plain caster sugar
A little toss in that, just so they all stick to that
How's that sauce looking? It smells amazing. You don't have to put the coffee in, that's an option that we've added
I think it's kind of cool, but by all means leave that out. Just drop them off into a clean plate
so you don't have an excess of sugar
Plenty on there, but not caked in them.
Now these, obviously you can make them for friends and family any time of the year
they're great for sharing and kids love them. So essentially they're long, thin doughnuts
And I'm going to serve them up inside of this
Cool! In fact, if I swap round again
So we've got plenty of these inside of our
container there
so that they are sticking out
And Barry, do the deed!
A little drizzle
And let plenty drip down into that container as well. It's also a good idea to serve
the rest into a bowl so people can dip into it.
Look at that...
Glossy, silky smooth chocolate
There we go
our coffee chocolate sauce
with our fantastic homemade churros
SORTED
Now they might be hot, see what you think. Ooo, I've gone for a big one. Oh my god, is this...?
They are amazing! Coffee's good as well
double dip
It almost feels like I'm at the fairground
That's what it reminds me of, street food, beach food, fairground food... amazing!
