CAMPAIGNING, SO LET'S GO TO ED
AND MEET ANOTHER ONE RIGHT NOW.
WE'RE COMING UP ON THE FINAL
WEEKEND OF CAMPAIGN BRG ELECTION
DAY.
AS WE'VE BEEN DOING, WE'RE
"WINGING IT!" WITH THE
CANDIDATES.
HERE WITH US IS GEORGE, ONE OF
THE SENATE CANDIDATES RUNNING
FOR RE-ELECTION IN THE 62ND
DISTRICT, WHICH INCLUDES ALL OF
NIAGARA COUNTY, ORLEANS COUNTY,
AN WESTERN PORTION OF MONROE
COUNTY.
WHAT'S THE BEST PART ABOUT
CAMPAIGNING SO FAR THIS SEASON?
I THINK GOING OUT AND MEETING
PEOPLE.
ALL YEAR LONG, BUT THERE'S SOME
HIGHS AND LOWS.
WE HAD A PRIMARY THIS YEAR AND,
YEAH, YOU KNOW, BEING ON THE
ROAD ALL THE TIME, TRAVEL.
YOU WERE TELLING ME YOU WERE
ON THIS HONOR FLIGHT WITH SOME
VETERANS.
TELL ME HOW IMPORTANT THAT WAS
TO YOU.
THIS IS THE FOURTH ONE THAT
I'VE SPONSORED.
IT'S A NATIONAL PROGRAM THAT
TAKES VETERANSES, WORD WAR TWO
VETERANSES TO WASHINGTON, D.C.
FOR THE DAY.
WE LEAVE EARLY IN THE MORNING,
COME BACK AT 10:00 O'CLOCK,
11:00 O'CLOCK AT NIGHT AND IT'S
I GREAT EXPERIENCE.
BEVERLY WENT WITH ME AND SHE WAS
A GUIDE FOR A VET.
FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR YOU,
WHAT WAS IT LIKE?
SEEING IT THROUGH THEIR EYES,
IT WAS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.
IT WAS A PRIVILEGE FOR ME TO BE
APART OF IT.
YOU WERE TELLING ME THERE'S
SOMEBODY THAT WAS, I GUESS IN A
WHEELCHAIR WHO IS PAIRED UP WITH
A VIETNAM VETERAN.
WE.
WE TRY TO TAKE AS MANY WORLD WAR
II VETERANS, VETERANS FROM THE
KOREAN WAR, AND THEY COME AS
GUIDES.
THIS ONE VETERAN WAS TOTALLY
IMMOBILE, IN A WHEELCHAIR.
WE HAD TO GET A SPECIAL BUS WITH
A LIFT ON IT FOR HIM, BUT HIS
FAMILY WANTED HIM TO GO TO ENJOY
THAT AND HE DID THAT.
WE PAIRED HIM UP WITH A VIETNAM
VET AND THEY TOOK GREAT CARE OF
HIM.
IT WAS THE MOST ENGINEER JOIBL
JOYIBLE THING I DO.
I DON'T CONSIDER PART OF THE
CAMPAIGN, BUT IT'S A REALLY
ENJOYABLE THING TO DO.
TUGZ AT YOUR HEART STRINGS.
IT DOES.
ONE THAT TUGS ON HEART
STRINGS WAS NIK WALLENDA AND YOU
TO DRY TO THING HIM HERE. WHAT
DID YOU MAKE OF IT?
IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE.
I GIVE THE GOVERNOR, HE TOOK A
LEAP OF FAITH.
I THINK THE LEGAL MINDS WERE
CONCERNED ABOUT LIABILITY.
THE GOVERNOR TOOK THE LEAP OF
FAITH, NIAGARA NEEDED IT AND IT
WAS A BIG WIN.
THEY'RE LAYING OFF OR WON'T
BE LAYING OFF ANYBODY WITH THE
BUDGET.
HE IS LAYING OFF SOME PEOPLE AND
ALSO RAISING TAXES MORE THAN 8%.
WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF THAT?
I'VE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH THE
GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, WE'RE GOING
TRY TO -- WE HAVE TO HELP THE
CITY OF NIAGARA FALLS.
THEY HAVE TO SURVIVE AND WE'LL
HELP THEM.
THIS DISPUTE WITH THE SENECA
NATION IS BETWEEN THE STATE AND
THE SENECAS, AND NIAGARA FALL IS
A VICTIM OF THAT.
WE WANT TO GET THEM THE
RESOURCES THAT THEY NEED.
NOW, YOU KNOW, THE MAYOR
CERTAINLY KNOWS THE CITY BUDGET
BETTER THAN ANYONE AND, YOU
KNOW, IF HE FEELS LIKE HE HAS TO
MAKE ADJUSTMENTS, WE WANT TO
HELP HIM GET OVER THE HUMP.
I WAS GLAD TO SEE THAT NOT ANY
OF THE EMERGENCY SERVICES,
POLICE OR FIRE, WOULD BE
AFFECTED BY THIS.
60 MILLION-DOLLARS FROM
CASINO CASH IS A LOT DUE TO
NIAGARA FALLS, SO HOPEFULLY THE
BALL WILL BE ROLLING ON THAT.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
BEVERLY, NICE TO MEET YOU.
