The trigger man is a man who is capable of getting things done. When you have a situation
that needs a professionals touch, you bring in the trigger man. This is ironic, because
this is a game that did not get it done, well in terms of creating a good game it didnt.
Lets just get this out of the way now. Trigger man is not a great game. It may not
even be considered a good game. The game just reeks of budget title. So with that in mind,
lets try and keep an open mind to the game, knowing that from the beginning this game
was never meant to be the next great thing.
As the title suggests, you play as the trigger man for a mafia family. You are the personal
clean up man for Don Coladangelo. When the son of rival family leader Don Montagano dies,
Don Coladangelo is blamed. So to prove his innocence, he has you convince Don Montagano
of it. No better way to prove your innocence of a *** than to hire a hitman. Soon you
are told of a diamond exchange in a new casino and are sent in to steal them and end the
war. The story is told through on-screen text and awkward character movements, but it gets
the job done.
The gameplay is that of third person shooting. You enter into an environment and have to
deal with the enemies one by one. You start off with a knife and a handgun, but you will
eventually find more powerful weapons. You dont have to use brute force if you dont
want to. Instead you can treat most areas like a stealth game, systematically taking
out enemies one by one with your knife.
The combat feels very basic. There are crosshairs on the screen that turn red when you have
a shot. The enemies do take a surprising amount of shots to take down, so headshots are the
way to go. And unlike most games, enemies dont drop ammo. Instead you can only reload
your weapons at ammo boxes. It's strange but you get used to it.
The biggest killing point to the game is the artificial intelligence, which is difficult
saying because the enemies dont have any trace of anything even resembling intelligence.
They will just stand there while being shot and take cover on the wrong side of things,
but will spot you from a mile away when you are doing stealth.
As a budget title, Trigger Man still leaves much to be desired. Even as a mindless shooter,
the game is held back by the AI. It may be worth a find, but only from the bargain bargain
bin.
