X
four sisters of Providence from Montreal came here
they took risks with their young lives
they didn't have a whole lot of education
they had willing hands and loving hearts
the sisters motto is
a heart consecrated to charity
how beautiful
that somehow
we've taken that
and that is a symbol to represent our ministry
there's so much back and forth within the clients that I enjoy while I work
but it also gives me perspective
when I leave every day and it makes me a better I think husband, better father to have these
rich encounters that I really don't take for granted
having access to fresh air and
green space, I think
that's a human thing that we all need and especially some of the clients that I work with
having a
safe and suitable environment
with staff that care will really lend well to getting our individual's better
and reaching their maximum potential or whatever they're quality of life would be
my name is Reginald Barker
I'm a patient on the Forensics services
when I first came her in nineteen ninety i was sick
i was sick and I was dangerous
i work with a
a doctor who's not here now
to uh help make me feel a whole lot better about myself and about other people
right now
we don't really have any privacy
we live in a dorm with people that I know but there's still people in there I don't know
the sisters original mission was to um
reach into the community and support people who were marginalized in the community
and just just
recognize the
human condition I guess is the best way to say it
and support and love and show compassion, preserve the dignity of
those people
the care that I received at Providence Care was fantastic they're all there for you they're there for
the patients and they worked together as a team
i think when you're in recovery or rehabilitation
you need sort of a nice environment
that's fresh and modern
and that is
more conducive to
healing and recovery. It can open a whole world of difference for someone who's
living there in terms of independence
and that independence can also lead to self-confidence
and that's important for anyone and everyone
i think it's going to be a real opportunity to make this a special place for patients
for our clients that call this home
so i think we have a real opportunity here to make it a really nice living
space um
to really enhance just all of the programs, all of our therapeutic programs
and enhance the living for our complex care patients
the hospital presently is very institutionalized there's no autonomy, there's no um quiet space
for the clients to go that they can call their own
anyone of us could be stricken with an illness at any point
and realize that we need to treat the person as a person and not treat them just
because they have an illness now that we've heard that
you know we we have the possible of moving in to a
new place
uh...that can't happen soon enough
just to um have a
little privacy
in health care in canada i think to be able to hold up that
we care for the whole person
not just to their body
but the whole person of who they are
is so important in our society being able to have hope
for a future
and having somebody to nurture that within you actually has physiological changes within a person
we want this to be a place where the community feels this is their hospital
we say
we serve with compassion
trust in providence
And walk in hope
in all the sort of tumultuous times and the chaotic um um
experiences happening in health care
i'm just so excited that providence stayed true to
the mission vision and values and it really is what makes a difference
i really do believe it is the foundation that keeps us who we are and keeps us serving the people the way that we do
