Kristin: I am the Vice Chair of the University Student Union Board of Directors, and I think
the best part about it is interacting with faculty, and administrators, and other students
on the board. And getting a better feel for hoe the University Student Union works at
its core, as well as how to better represent students in that role.
Andrew: I have been involved with USU Productions for three years of my college career; it has
been the most rewarding three years. Currently, I am on USU Productions, which is the official
campus programming board. I find it really rewarding, because we create events for students,
by a team of students. So, it is really student generated events to better the student experience
at Fresno State. Erica: This year I am a Campus Involvement
Ambassador and I am also the Student Director for Vintage Days. I have been able to work
as a team with 13 other students to kind of accomplish this huge, you know, festival that
kind of just symbolizes and engulfs what Fresno State is all about: Diversity, distinction,
discovery. Kristi: The main thing that I am involved
in is USU Productions, and then this year I am the Special Events Coordinator. And basically
we put on all events that don't necessarily fit into the other categories, so it's a lot
of fun activities that we are able to plan. I think I have left my mark by creating a
variety of events for students, you know they have been cultural, educational, and of course
fun. Levi: I am currently a Campus Involvement
Ambassador and have served time as a liaison with the Board of Directors here on campus
and have also been a part of the annual Alternative Spring Break program here at Fresno state.
I get to talk to students from all over campus, all different backgrounds and I get to see
an immediate impact on their lives by getting them involved here at Fresno State.
Erica: I apply these skills in my everyday life, so when I am at work or when I am here
at school. My communication skills, my listening skills, those are extremely important. My
leadership skills, you know, when to take initiative or when to kind of step back, you
know, allow someone else to step up. Levi: And to a certain extent you don't really
think about when you are applying these skills. Your conversations with your professors and
other administrators, they are a lot more fluid because you know exactly how they should
be conducted. You know how to get a letter of recommendation, you know how to get a job,
how to conduct an interview, because you've gone through the motions a billion time before.
It becomes easy, it becomes natural. Kristi: I think specifically time management
for me has been very valuable. Because literally we have class, we have work, we have sleep
that we need to go through. But like with USU Productions we have 40-50 events going
on, trying to fit them all in, you want to attend all of them. But I think it has really
helped me through it. Andrew: I think through the Student Involvement
experience we have all honed all these skills so that we apply them to different facets
of our lives. Whether it's at work or it's in our classes.
Kristin: I think it is very useful to have the skill, or these skills, that we've learned
on our resumes and to prove that we've had experience in real-life situations in which
we have had to be professional and had to work at organizing things. I have been able
to get two jobs on campus because of my experiences in Student Involvement. I think I plays a
key role in proving to employers that you are ready for a job.
Levi: everyone has the potential to be a student leader.
Erica: Take the plunge, fill out the application. Kristin: Just Do It, to steal from Nike.
Erica: Get Involved, GET INVOLVED!
