DOCUMENTARIES FOR NON DISCRIMINATION
More than half a million Haitians and Dominicans of
Haitian origins live in the Dominican Republic, where each
day they face discrimination and xenophobia just because
they have the same color as the majority of the population.
This attitude towards black people can be seen almost
unconsciously from a very young age in Dominican children, who
automatically associate color with nationality.
-What's your name?
-Diana.
-How do they call you?
-Dianita.
-Dianita? And how old are you?
-Five. One, two, three, four, five...
-What's your skin color?
-Indian.
-Indian? And how about your mom?
-White.
-So, your mom is white. -Yes.
-And how about your dad?
-Haitian.
-Your dad is Haitian? -Yes.
-Why?
-Because that's his skin color. Black, like the Haitians.
-But, your dad is not Haitian.
-I know.
-So, why are you saying that he's Haitian?
-But, he's not a real Haitian. That's just his skin color.
