One day, Thomas and Percy steamed into Brendam Docks where the Fat Controller was waiting with a new engine.
The engine was big and blue, had big red wheels, and a shiny bell.
"This is the new engine, Hank. You are to show him around, Thomas, while you do your jobs today."
"Hank looks stronger than a giant!"
"I'm sure he's not stronger than a Sodor engine."
"One last thing, Thomas, make sure you're back by teatime for Hank's welcome party at Knapford."
Thomas coupled up to the trucks of machinery as Hank trundled over.
"Howdy, Thomas! You look like one of the finest little engines I've ever seen!"
Thomas didn't like being called 'little'.
"I'm a tank engine!"
"Those trucks look way too heavy for you - let me take them for you!"
Hank meant to be helpful, but it made Thomas cross.
Thomas thought Hank was being cheeky.
"No, thank you. I can pull much heavier loads than this."
"I'd be happy to help!"
But Thomas was already puffing out of the Docks.
At the junction, Thomas didn't take the track to the factory.
He went straight to the Quarry.
(HANK WHISTLES)
Thomas buffered up to some stone trucks.
(HANK WHISTLES)
"Hold your huffing there, Thomas. Let big ol' Hank take those trucks for you!"
"No, thank you. Tank engines can pull very heavy loads!"
And with that, Thomas puffed wearily out of the Quarry.
Thomas and Hank approached a bridge where children were waiting for Bertie the Bus.
"Hello, Thomas!"
"Howdy, children! Great to see you! Thomas, aren't you gonna whistle hello?"
But Thomas hadn't the puff to whistle hello.
Thomas puffed up to Farmer McColl's.
Harvey had just loaded the old tractor onto the waiting flatbed.
"Hello, Farmer McColl. This is Hank, he's the new engine of Sodor."
"Howdy, Farmer McColl, that's a mighty fine tractor you have. Say, Thomas, you look all out of puff 'n' pull. I'll take it for you."
"No, thank you!"
The tractor was coupled up to the end of Thomas' train.
The little blue engine huffed and puffed and his wheels spun and spun.
"Come on, Thomas. The train's way too heavy for you. Take the pressure off your pistons - couple me up!"
But Thomas was determined to pull the train alone and finally, he got the train moving.
"We-we mustn't be late for your welcome party, Hank."
But it wasn't long before Thomas ran into trouble.
With a terrifying crack and a loud wheesh, Thomas came to a stop.
Thomas' driver got out to inspect the damage.
"Looks like you've cracked one of your pistons, Thomas."
"Oh, no. Now the deliveries won't be made, we won't arrive for the welcome party
and now I'm not a really useful engine or even a really strong one."
"Shucks, Thomas, that's too bad."
"I wanted to show you that I wasn't just a little steam engine, I wanted to show you that I was really strong!
So I didn't want to ask for your help, but I need it now. Please-please Hank, will you help me?"
"I'd be happy to help! You give the orders, I'll do the pushing!"
Soon the pair had delivered Farmer McColl's tractor, the trucks of stone and the factory machine.
After all that puffing, they were on their way to Knapford and arrived just in time for the party.
"Thank you, Hank! Now all the engines on Sodor know just how strong you are!"
