Since it is Memorial Day, by the way, it makes sense that we hear from Sarah Palin. And after
the last show, where I suggested there's some indications that Sarah Palin may be running
for president even though I actually think she won't in the end... not everybody agrees
with me on that, Louis.
Louis: I think she's running.
David: I still don't think that she is. I think she's pulling a Donald Trump. But in
any event, she showed up at a biker rally, and this is one of the most bizarre pieces
of tape, this angry biker was there, and he, when Sarah Palin got off of the motorcycle,
he tried to clear out all of the journalists that were in the area, which I think is interesting,
because in a way, it probably represents... it's a microcosm of what things would be like
if Sarah Palin were president, which is that big-looking biker guys would be clearing out
anybody who wants to ask questions of her. I think it represents it well. Here it is,
and this guy really gets fired up.
Biker: Get these people outta here! Get outta here before someone gets hurt! Move! And I
mean right now! Get outta here!
David: So people very... this guy very, very protective over Sarah Palin. And then Sarah
Palin goes on, since it is Memorial Day, well, what are your thoughts about Memorial Day,
Sarah? She goes on to say something that not only is it just slightly off, but it shows,
again, the complete, fundamental misunderstanding by Sarah Palin of just about everything. I
hope that the audio's good here, because I know that this video is a little low, but
listen to what she says about vets and our freedom when she's asked.
Reporter: Sarah, why are you here today?
Sarah Palin: Here to honor our vets, and remind Americans how truly important it is to express
our gratitude. You know, it's a debt of gratitude that we owe to our vets. It's not the politician,
it's not the reporter who allows our freedom, it's our vets. So, here to honor them.
David: Right. It's our vets who allow our freedom. And what's amazing about that is
that it just makes literally no sense, because if vets are the ones who are allowing our
freedom, then by definition, they must have the power to not allow it if they don't want,
meaning we have no freedom. But nobody... of course, the big biker making sure that
no actual follow-up takes place, because imagine if somebody actually had to follow up with
Sarah Palin.
Louis: People like Sarah Palin, like this obese biker that we just saw, because she
says things that are... that people think are patriotic.
David: Right.
Louis: That's the only reason. That's her...
David: Like our vets allow our freedom.
Louis: That's it. She just says things that are patriotic, and people love it.
David: You know, strategically, I actually think it makes sense for Sarah Palin to do
this thing where she keeps people wondering whether she is or isn't running, because if
we look at Sarah Palin's popularity in polls, back during the first round of speculation,
where it looked like Sarah Palin might actually be running for president, she was doing significantly
better. And then as you remember, she kind of faded away, speculation was... the consensus
was she probably isn't running, personal approval went way down.
Now, there were other reasons, too, including the fact that she continued to say... make
statements that put in evidence that she's completely incompetent. I know that that's
a factor. But now, again, that it's looking like she may run, some polls showing an uptick
again. She's getting more media coverage. Generally, it's just good for Sarah Palin
for people to wonder whether you're running or not as long as possible.
I don't think she will run. She doesn't want the pay cut, she doesn't want to do the work,
and she knows she can't win, even if John McCain says she could win. John McCain also
thought he could win by having her as the vice president, why anybody would listen to
John McCain on Sarah Palin's chances after that I don't know.
Louis: Yeah, good question.
David: But you think she's running?
Louis: I think it's looking that way. But you could be right. I really don't know.
