I want to talk to you about the discussion post rubric. It is posted on the discussions
after the introductory discussion. It will be posted on the ten other discussions in
the class. If you look in the first row, you will see how many point possible for the various
criteria listed below. The first criteria is when the post was posted initially. So,
if you post by Friday, you will get three points. By Saturday, two points, and by Sunday
you'll get one point. Now note that in the discussion forum, that everything is due on
Sunday. But if you post before that, Friday or before, you will get all three points.
If you wait until the last minute, you are only going to get one point. The next criteria
is if you've fulfilled the responding responsibilities. You are responsible for your initial post
and then to respond to at least two classmates. If you do that, you will get three points,
if you just respond to one classmate in addition to your initial post, you will get two points.
And, with an initial post, but you don't respond to anybody, you will get one point. The frequency
of posts is how ofter you post throughout the week. I encourage you to post early and
to respond to classmates throughout the week so we can have some engaging dialogue on these
discussion topics. If it is spread out over the week, you will get three points, or if
you post all at once, you will get one point. The last criteria is the content of the post.
And, you will notice that this is the only one that has anything in that 11 point column.
That is the most you can get for criteria and this is if the post is written really
well, you are not using text speech, you have correct spelling and grammar, you have some
content to back up your main points, you are going to get 11 points. If you have enough
to give the give the discussion some insight but you could use more to explain and your
grammar isn't perfect, you'll get six points. If you have just a few sentences that are
not grammatically correct you'll get three points. And it goes down from there as you
see on the rubric. So, if I have done a really well written discussion, I will get 11 points.
But I didn't post it until Sunday so I only get one point. I responded to one other classmate,
so I will get two points. So that is 11 plus one plus two, so that equals 14. But I spread
out over the week, so I have 17 points for that discussion. Please email or private message
me if you have any questions or if this is still confusing for you. I hope this helps
and I look forward to reading your discussions.
