My name is Shane Lark. I live here in Columbus Indiana
and I ride a motorcycle. I love to ride my motorcycle.
I had been hit by a pickup truck and pinned up against a trailer and it kind of
split my leg open to the bone
from the knee to the ankle. I had an injury about eighteen years ago
and it's caused me to have to wear a brace on my right leg.
All I could think about
is he hit my good leg
and all I could think about was losing that leg.
I'd never heard of
the hyperbaric treatment before.
Originally I had some fears
to get in the chamber.
After
a couple visits I was really comfortable with it. I just
pretty much laid in there and went to sleep
and it was great after I got used to it.
You can leave your bandage on while you're in the chamber
and you're breathing in 100 percent oxygen
which pushes the oxygen through the wound in the blood.
It really seemed like it sped my
healing process on a lot if you could see this leg the way it was before and
now.
There's a big difference in a short period of time, less than two months it
was a really nasty cut
and now it's
more like a scrape.
It's really sped my recovery on so much that now the doctors say that I don't
need a skin graft and originally
they thought that I would have to.
If this wasn't available at Columbus Regional Hospital
I don't know if I would've been able to go all the way up to Indianapolis or
somewhere else.
It's very valuable to me because I haven't been able to work and I couldn't
really afford to gas to drive back and forth.
It's definitely been a success for me
and I'm really looking forward to getting this bandage off which I think is
coming pretty soon
and
ride my motorcycle and
just not worry about my wound.
