OH, MY GOODNESS.
IT IS WONDERFUL TO HAVE THEM
HERE.
>> JIMMY: KEEP THE JOKES TO
>> LISA: I'VE GOT TO PUT ON MY
GLASSES TO SEE IT.
>> JIMMY: PETS PROVIDE
DIFFERENT THINGS FOR DIFFERENT
PEOPLE.
THERE'S COMPANIONSHIP .
EVEN THERAPY.
THAT'S WHATTHE GROUP PAWS FOR
PEOPLE IS ALL ABOUT .
>> LISA: IS A NONPROFIT
ORGANIZATION TO PROVIDE ELDERS
AND CHILDREN AND PEOPLE WITH
DISABILITIES WITH A GENTLE,
WE RECENTLY WENT ON A COUPLE OF
THOSE VISITS AND BELIEVE ME,
IT'S THERAPY FOR EVERYONE
INVOLVED.
THIS IS RUDY.
HE'S ON A MISSION.
BUT THIS MISSION IS FAR FROM
IMPOSSIBLE.
IT'S A MISSION SET FORTH BY
PAUSE FOR PEOPLE.
>> WOMAN: WE ARE AN
ORGANIZATION THAT RECRUITS AND
TRAINED PEOPLE AND THEIR WELL
BEHAVED ANIMALS TO BECOME
VISITATION ANIMALS WERE THERAPY
ANIMALS AT SITES IN THE AREA
LILY IS A RESCUE THAT CAME FROM
FORT WORTH TEXAS.
>> LISA: THEY LIVE IN MANOR
HOUSEWHICH IS A CONTINUOUS CARE
RETIREMENT COMMUNITY .
>> WOMAN: WE VISIT IN OUR
HEALTHY CENTER, WHICH IS
SKILLED NURSING AND LONG TERM
CARE AND REHAB.
WE ALSO HAVE A MEMORY UNIT, BUT
WE LIVE IN A COTTAGE THAT COME
UP ALLTHE TIME .

BECAUSE LILY LOVES TO BE LOVED.

>> WOMAN: NOT ALLANIMALS ARE
SUITED FOR THERAPY WORK .
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IS
EXTREMELY WELL BEHAVED,
AFFECTIONATE ANIMALS THAT ARE
PEOPLE FOCUSED.
>> LISA: AND THAT'S CERTAINLY
THE CASE WITH LUCY.
MIKE AND NINA HAVE BEEN
BRINGING LUCY TO MANOR HOUSE
AND ALREADY LUCY IS A BIT OF A
ROCK STAR.
RESIDENT MARGARET HAS UZIS
PICTURE ON HER WALL.
>> WOMAN: SOMETIMES IT HELPS
PEOPLE COME OUT OF THEIR SHELL.
SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE WITHDRAWN
AND WHEN THEY SEE AN ANIMAL,
IT'S EASIER FOR THEM TO OPENUP
AND FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE
TALKING WITH PEOPLE .
SO IT'S CERTAINLY AN ADDED
BENEFIT.
>> LISA: FOR RESIDENT MARILYN
GETTING.
>> WOMAN: MY FATHER GOT ME
AFRAID OF DOGS.
>> LISA: BUT LILY CHANGE THAT.
>> WOMAN: WHEN LILY CAME AND I
SAID I'M NOTGOING THERE THAT
DOG .
IT'S BIG.
AND TODAY SEEING ALL THESE
PEOPLE COME AND PET THEM, YOU
KNOW.
HE WAS TRAINED TO BE WITH
PEOPLE.
SO I GOT MY NERVE UP.
[LAUGHTER].
I PET HIM.
>> LISA: NOW MIRIAM AND LILY
SHARE A SPECIAL BOND.
AND IT'S NOT JUST LILY AND THE
RESIDENTS WHO BENEFIT FOR PAWS
FOR PEOPLE.
>> WOMAN: I THINK I FEEL AS
MUCH AS MILLIE DOES.
SOME OF IT IS SO TOUCHING.
IT JUST MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE
THAT WAS A GOOD DAY.
THAT WAS A GOOD VISIT.
AND SOMETIMES THE VISIT IS JUST
BETWEEN THE TWO PEOPLE IN THE
DOG IS JUST THERE OR SOMETIMES
THE VISIT IS JUST BETWEEN THE
RESIDENT AND THE DOG AND YOU'RE
JUST KIND OF THEY ARE.
AND SOMETIMES IT'S ALL THREE OF
YOU.
>> LISA: PETS THAT ARE
.
>> WOMAN: THAT'S WHERE WE WORK
ON HOW TO INTERACT WITH PEOPLE
MAKING SURE THAT THEY ARE
APPROACHES RIGHT , RESPECTING
BOUNDARIES, LEARNING HOW TO
READ BODY LANGUAGE.
I'M WORKING WITH THE PEOPLE WHO
REALLY.
WITH ALL PEOPLE NO MATTER THEIR
BREED, AGE OR SIZE.
>> WOMAN: AS LONG AS THE DOG
IS UP TO DATE ONTHEIR
VACCINATIONS , THEY ARE WELCOME
IN THE PROGRAM.

ONLY BEEN AROUND FOR 11 YEARS
BUT THE GROUP CONTINUES TO
EXPAND .
>> WOMAN: WE PROVIDE SERVICES
DELAWARE IS WHERE OUR HOME
BASES BUT ALSO PARTS OF
MARYLAND AND NEW JERSEY AND
PENNSYLVANIA.
WANT OUR SERVICES AS MUCH.
SO, WE HAVE CAREFULLY PLANNED
WHERE WE ARE DOING REGIONAL
TRAINING SO WE CAN TRAIN PEOPLE
TO VISIT IN AND AROUND THEIR
AREA.
NOBODY WANTS TO TRAVEL A GREAT
DISTANCE TO GET TRAINING BUT WE
ALSO WORK TO IDENTIFY
APPROPRIATE SITES THAT WE CAN
PARTNER WITH.
>> WOMAN: ENSURING THAT
THERE'S ENOUGH PUPPY LOVE TO GO
AROUND.

WITH RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES.
