A Global End to Rabies in Nepal

As you can see that lots of pets have been concentrated in this area so lets ask our fellows what is going on here. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. Ok, what is going on here? We have organized free rabies vaccination camp in our clinic. What is the name of your institution? Our institution name is Himalayan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, HICAST. That is located in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. What is HICAST doing to educate people and to raise the awareness among the people about rabies? Well, HICAST has been conducting different activities to educate people since its establishment such as we disseminate information regarding the prevention and control of rabies disease to different media partners, medias and posters and pamphlets magazines, etc. What are the activities you performed on World Rabies Day? On World Rabies Day, we use to organize various activities. Some of them are: we students organize Veterinarians' rally, free vaccination camp, school education, various talk programs and technical seminars, etc. How often do you participate on such activities ? We often use to participate on such activities like dissemination of information in school once a year technical programs and talk programs at least twice a year and organizing rally, twice a year. and we have made compulsions in such programs to vet students and Veterinarians of HICAST to participate. What are the challenges you have faced to control the rabies in your community? Well, talking about the challenges, we have faced a lot of challenges such as lack of awareness in people of community and there is no proper planning and management of stray dog control program. Furthermore, there is lack of intersectoral co-ordination. We would be glad if you would share success story while controlling rabies in your community? Previously, we use to receive more queries from general people about post-bite treatment now it has gone drastically down. We think it is may be due to awareness that we have created. Beside that, now a days we are receiving much more cases for dog vaccination program in our clinic too. We think stray dog program along with rabies vaccination program has been one of the most successful program in our institution. Well, thank you for your time. Thank you!!!
