Hi, were here at the Classic car show with Eric Western here, he is the proud owner of
this wonderful Lancia Montecarlo. So ... Eric tell me a little bit about how
long have you had the car for? I've had the car for about 4 and a half years,
this beautiful Pininfarina styling is the only car that Pininfarina ever designed, designed
and made. It was a custom piece they developed as a
one off. Also it's got fabulous handling.
I was struck by it as a 19 year old, had to have one, they are beautiful to drive and
beautiful balanced handling. you can gracefully slide it from side to side
when you put power down beautifully for powering out the corners.
3 owners before me. I bought it body work sound, mechanically
rough, knowing that i was always goin to work on mechanics.
I even had some of the cylinder head work done before I owned the car because I had
a vision of what is was goin to be. I have got an emerald fuel injection on there,
so i have installed modern pro-sport fuel injection
It's a big valve cylinder head designed and worked on by a guy called Guy Croft who is
a Formula 1 engineer who specializes in tuning these cars.
It's a free reving car that works right through the rev range so its easy to drive even though
it will rev out to 8500 RPM. And it just screams round the track under
power It's just like one long stream of power and
a big grin! I can still turn four piston callipers throughout
with the hand brake mechanism built into the rear callipers.
Using Fiat Coupe discs so they are vented disc dissemblers.
which means that the original Montecarlo brakes were i think the word is 'frightening'.
so you know with this sort of level of power I needed to stop,
more than that they are very controllable so you can feed the brakes.
So theres no anti-lock or any modern concessions to extreme safety like traction control because
you need to be able to feel the car. BOY 534Y any particular reason for that?
people always say because I'm the boy racer I've always wanted to be,
actually it came with the car... really, so it was the original number plate
on the car? it was the original plate on the car,
I'm always being approached by people that want the plate,
as it's with the car and always raises a smile I've devided I'll keep it.
and do you use it day to day or just for track events and that sort of thing?
I use it for special shows and for fun and when the suns out and when i just want to
have some fun. what's your day car? what do you drive?
I've got an Audi A6 special edition, so big expensive modern Audi which is completely
the opposite.
