Hi, I'm Raadhika. Let's talk about how alcohol suppresses the body's fat burning ability.
Small amounts of alcohol on its own
won't cause you to gain weight.
In fact a small glass of wine,
has around 100 calories only.
It gets a bit more murky, when we drink while we are on a diet.
A couple of things happen. Firstly,
the body
can't put alcohol in line
and process it slowly after metabolizing carbs, fats and proteins.
Alcohol has to be dealt with first.
So the food in your body gets metabolized
only after the alcohol has been dealt with.
That means
weight loss is put on hold.
Once the alcohol has been metabolized, then the other metabolic processes start up again.
That's how alcohol suppresses the body's fat burning ability.
But if too much alcohol is consumed,
then it can cause malnutrition.
The body becomes so caught up
in getting rid of the alcohol,
that food is not processed
and nutrition is lost.
Plus there is the added worry of liver cirrhosis.
Alcohol cause carb cravings
and because it also undermines our will power,
we cave in and eat.
So on all counts,
too much is bad.
So watch how much you drink
and you will be fine.
