Well, I just was recently hired as Billy Corgan's research assistant to help him with his upcoming
book, and for those who don't don't the name, he's the frontman for The Smashing Pumpkins
who is a major rock band of the nineties and early millenium. Well, I can say my reactions
was similar to a twelve year old girl meeting Justin Beiber for the first time. It was exciting.
Uh, I screamed a little bit. I'm not going to lie. There was a lot of jumping and a lot
of hugging. Well, I was on Twitter one random day during the summer because I was bored,
and I looked at one of his tweets, and he said, "I'm looking for a research assistant
to help me with my new book. Are you that person?" I looked at that, and I go "Yes!
Yes, I'm that person! I'm the one for this job!" With some encouragement from my husband
who said, "You don't have anything to lose. Put your cover letter and your resume. Send
it to the email address and see what happens." Then, a few months down the road I get a phone
call from Billy Corgan's assistant saying, "Can we set up an interview time? You are
being considered for the position." After the interview was over, I got an email asking
about salary, which I was still unsure if I had gotten the job or not. Then, last Thursday
at about three o'clock I get a phone call from Billy Corgan. He wanted to talk about
the book and talk about the project, and he said, "The salary is doable." I said, "Are
you telling me I have the job?" He said, "We'll sure give it a shot!" It means the world to
me because I have been a fan of Billy Corgan like I said, since I was eleven years old,
and he is my ultimate rock star. Having the opportunity to get to work one on one with
him is priceless. I really enjoy the Rhetoric and Writing program alot. It's the best college
experience I've had so far. Even though I'm a graduate student. I love the campus. I love
the instructors. I love all the programs and opportunities that they offer students. I
love the first year composition program that allows graduate students to teach. They just
give you so many opportunities in many different areas to help you further a career or choose
a career. I really love teaching. It's an hour a day that I can set aside that I know
I can talk about nothing but writing, and that's exciting. I love to talk about writing
because that's obviously why I'm in the program. I love to interact with students. I love how
they get excited when they see that their writing is improving. I like knowing that
I'm helping them improve their writing. I always want to teach no matter what. Even
if I've taken on another full time job doing something different, I always at least want
to teach one class because I do enjoy it. As far as my career path is looking now, teaching
is where I'm heading. Full time teaching because I enjoy it. I love it!
